Did You Go Shooting Today

Yes, had a blast with Millie at Jim's in Fayetteville. She likes my M&P 22C .22 pistol, with suppressor attached. :)
Let her try my S&W 686+ 4" with .38spl round. She hit dead center of the target.
Her Sig P238 shoots nice.

AND??????
Sorry, had so much fun I had to take a nap!

Shot 49 rounds in the Sig, did ok, not shooting thru the original holes (yet) but I'd have hit a bad guy in the torso and made him verrry unhappy! Lol.

Also got to shoot some more cool guns:
S&W 686 4" stainless .357... beautiful sights, lovely gun, very heavy, but not a lot of recoil!

Walther PPK/S, very nice and comfortable to shoot, but I think that was the one with the unbelievably hard-to-pull trigger!!

Also the very, very nice S&W M&P 22C.....with Sparrow suppressor...kind of loved that one.
My shots with the .22s were pretty closely grouped! I want one! It's next on the list, I think.
So a very productive day, with interesting company and guns.

Also, I gotta add, for whatever women are nearby....my range, with a bunch of young men with guns on their hips? Hot stuff!! Lol.
And there you have it.

I loved the M&P 22C....loved.
It was nice of you to trek from the big city to Jim's. I had fun.
And you showed me what the Sig can really do, so I have some work to do, but I'll get there. That thing has never had a single issue, it's like a tank...hope I didn't jinx it!

Just a short drive from Raleigh.
The young lady behind the front counter sure was purdy.

208 rounds today. Starting it’s 1k round rotation/no cleaning run.

Hate the front sight. Dawson has me spoiled. The factory Springfield fiber optic just looks like a blob and makes it hard to find the top of the front sight. Having some issues shooting a little high.

Gonna try some paint and see if that helps address the issue. If not, I’ll get some decent sights put on.

Did ammo tests with subsonic loads for 22 LR.

The Ruger 10/22 after replacing all springs, bolt handle, extractor and rod with Kidd! Works like a charm using Remington Thunderbolt, CCI, Fiocchi, Winchester subsonic.

My Mark IV worked with subsonic Fiocchi and CCI.

I’m waiting on a Tandemkross extractor for the Mark IV.... hope that helps the FTE issue I have on subsonic. I replaced the guiderod and recoil spring with a Volquartsen.

Yes I did finally manage to go shooting. Had a couple of New Jersey outlaws on the range. They both enjoyed the AR15, 12 gauge shotgun and my 9mm XDs. The SIL wants a gun now and the BIL is now convinced he needs an AR and a pistol. Good luck in Jersey! I also had my outlaw from Co. that shoots handguns, but wants a shotgun for HD. She liked the Mossberg. I have more coming in so I will once again be supervising a couple of newbs with a somewhat experienced shooter in the next few days.

Someone made a thread about people using up ammo. Sometimes it's worth it!

I firmly believe that if we should have any firearms laws at all, it should be mandatory to have a M&P 22 or SR22. Both being awesome suppressor hosts as well as great training tools.
I totally agree! Lol.

Went to PHA Friday. Took the new youth minister from our church. Plan was to spend time in a pistol bay, then either a rifle or open bay, then the rimfire range.

He texted me first thing that morning to say it was raining where he was (he's 10 minutes from PHA and I'm ~45) and looked like it would be all morning. Wanted to know how that impacted my plans...and I simply said it didn't. He could take a raincheck if he wanted, but I was going to be shooting.

He showed up and we got started. He only owns a shotgun, but said he'd shot pistols a couple times. He readily had no idea what pistols or even calibers he'd shot before, so I brought several. He ended up shooting:
22 semiauto
22 revolver
9mm semiauto
9mm revolver
40 semiauto
45 semiauto
38/357 revolver

Shot all the semis both unsuppressed and suppressed.

I also had 40 and 45 revolvers, but we never got around to them. Picked a pistol bay that had three 6-piece (maybe 8" circles) steel targets that would fall back, and get pulled back up with rope.

It was cold, and rained the whole time. But we had an absolute blast for about 2 hours.

Also shot the suppressed 15-22 SBR, and the suppressed 9mm SBR. He really enjoyed both of those.

ETA: ran a mag or two through the 9mm SBR without a hiccup. Had one loaded with alternating 115/147 so he could see how big of an impact ammo had with suppression levels. Then while I was packing up I gave him a couple more mags so he could keep shooting. I wasn't watching too close, but it would fire 2-4 and then jam. It appeared to cycle and then when he pulled the trigger again nothing. I'd step over to cycle the CH and find a empty case jammed in it. After it did it 2-3 times I had him switch to a new mag, and it did it again. I shot it and it did the same thing after a couple rounds. Pulled the bolt and hit it with CLP and it did it again. Hoping it just needs a good cleaning. Not sure if the ejector/extractor is filthy or not.

Most disappointing thing about it is I rarely ever have any issues from that gun. I just recently bought a couple hundred rounds of HSTs and was going to move the 9mm SBR to primary HD status after running several mags of the new ammo through it. Guess I'll clean it tomorrow and get back to the range...and use those same two partial mags to see if they continue to jam or if the cleaning fixed it.

@Bullseye Baldee brought a friend with him, and we took off the DPRC yesterday. His friend had some really nice lever action rifles that he had never shot past 25 yards (indoor) so he had an awesome experience. He had lived for years in New Jersey and related his experiences with being a gun owner in that state. (Unreal).

@Bullseye Baldee had his 45/70 rifles, lobbing those monster 530gn bullets. I did get a video through the spotting scope where you could see the trajectory of the bullet going to the target. Pretty cool. I will see if I can edit/post the video when I get a chance.

I had a new AR upper (24" 223) that I had just finished assembling on Saturday. I adjusted the gas block according to the instructions (wide open to start with, I will tune it later). It functioned perfectly, I sent only about 20 rounds through it on this trip. I wasn't shooting for groups yet, I just wanted to get the scope zeroed and check it for function.

I also had some 7.62x39 loads I wanted to test in my x39 AR. The load data I found, from multiple sources, were all over the place - none of them had over-lapping charge ranges. I started low and worked up, (22.0-27.0gn) the last load had the best extreme spread and group size (about 2" @ 100 yards). I still have some other powders and bullets to try.

The real fun, for me, was my 44 mag 20" Rossi. I've never shot it past 50 yards, so I decided to go to 100 yards with it. The pistol loads I had were not very accurate, maybe 12" @ 100, but the loads that I had worked up specifically for the rifle were accurate and I had no problem hitting the steel plate at 100. I shot the last of those loads, so I need to make up a bunch more now that I know they work well.

When we got back, I used my bore scope to look down the barrel of @Bullseye Baldee's rifle to see if there was any leading from his bullets, as he had used some slightly softer lead in some of them. He shot a total of 70 rounds and there was only very light leading in the first few inches of the barrel.

As has become a custom whenever Bullseye Baldee and I go shooting, we finished up by shooting a few rounds through the 460. I think he wets his pants every time he shoots it. :D

What a great gun to shoot. I think it will be mine soon......Toprudder is getting tired of it.

(Recent texts between TR and BEB):

(TR) You still interested in buying my 460?

(BEB) Are you going to sell it?

(TR) No, I just wanted to know if you still wanted it. :)

(BEB) %#*&!!!!

Just came in. Raining. Hadda shoot of the Bunk House porch.
I'm glad I wasn't the only one. We have a building I can shoot in the dry. Only a 100 yards to shoot so I did 22lr in my 10.5 AR pistol.
Wanted to play around with the new ACSS 1-6x24 I have on my pistol.

I did!
Had another training class with Tony, and it was a mixed bag, but we did find out some stuff. He loaded up the gun with live rounds some snap caps, and had me shoot, so he could see if there was a problem...sometimes yes, sometimes no. Got some "homework" to do before next lesson, but overall I learned a lot and best of all it was cold in there!!! I could see my breath puffing out...finally!
Shot about 75 rounds in between discussing my "issues", then I had to call it a day, as my shoulders were getting a bit tense.
All in all another fantastic day at the range! (And only got hit by casing once, the rest were hitting the floor or my coach!)

I did some changes to my Ruger Mark IV Integral Suppressed Target.

I did a Volquartsen spring and rod kit install, used a TandemKross extractor and TandemKross titanium firing pin.

Polished the internals.

Tested it on the crappiest 22 LR ammo that I know.

These videos are the result from yesterday.

BTW my trigger is just around 4 lbs after 1200 rounds.

Mrs. Toprudder and I went to TSA last night for some much needed stress relief. She took her CZ97, but the only thing she ended up shooting was the Ruger SR22. She is loving that little gun. Glad I picked up a bunch more CCI Mini Mags on sale.

I had not shot my Witness 45 in a while (one of my favorite guns) so I fired a few mags through that. And, finally, I unloaded the mag in my EDC, a Sig P938.

We finished up by going around the corner to Red Robin. Yummm....

This afternoon, the wife looks me dead in the eye and said "I'm cleaning the house. Either help or get out."
Well, I'm in the doghouse now, but I got the sights drifted on two pistols that I recently put night sights on lol.
Took the Scorpion out for a spin, too. Every time she comes out, she's the belle of the ball. I put two mags (64) through it and several folks checked her out. One feller tried her out about fifteen shots at 50 yards. Ding-ding-ding went the steel lol
I love that little lady

At TSA today to try out my Beretta Neos that I sent to Beretta for warranty repair, the trigger was not resetting unless I pushed it along to help it. Also two roll pins walking out of the top rail.
Beretta covered the shipping both ways, adjusted trigger engagement and replaced the three pins, all in one day and returned to me two days later.
Ran 200 rounds CCI with my Sparrow suppressor. 100% function.
