Did You Go Shooting Today

Shot yesterday. Passed “The Test” running it cold with and EDC X9 in 9.25 seconds clean. Nothing outside the black.

I then did some shoot and move drills because we all know that shooting drills standing still will get you killed. :D ;)

Gonna go blast some Fusion Firearms 1911's at a Black Friday event they are holding in Sanford NC today. Deepriver.net.

Very cool. But it is chilly out there. Went out for bagels this morning and woke up very quickly. I may head to the club later. Gotta see what the boss and kids think I am doing around here first.

I wasted a bunch of ammo today!
Have not shot my Ruger 1 45-70 in over a year so I grabbed it with 50 rounds of ammo. Started out at the 500 yard range shooting the 200 and 300 yard targets. I was the only one there (55 degrees and wind blowing about 20) so I did not have anybody to spot for me. First think I noticed was I did not like the way the scope was mounted so I slide it back about an inch and a half. Figured I need to rezero the scope and headed to the 100 meter range. Got it shooting about 2 MOA. By this time I have gone through 35 or so rounds of ammo. Headed back to the 500 yard range and still have no idea where I was shooting at the 200 and 300 yard steel. By time the recoil stopped the bullet already hit the dirt or flew over the mound.

Not sure what to expect out of that gun. Would you be happy with a 2 MOA in a 22" 45-70?

20 MPH winds I'd happy with 2 MOA in a hunting round. Sounds decent to me.

Chrono'd some loads from my 1911, might need a lighter bullet for major, think 230gr is gonna be a rainbow at those speeds. My book mins are making 190pf.

Sent a couple 9mm from the 16" PCC across the screens just to see, 200fps gain over my G17s.

Ran a couple hundred thru the CO rig working varying difficulty transitions and shooting headboxes and plate racks on the move from 15yds. Better than 75% success, guess it's a start.

Why yes I did. Some 6.5 CM, 224 V, 5.56, and 6.8 out to 500. Plus a little 9mm sprinkled in there...

Went to the range today to chrono some rifle loads (204 Ruger, 223, 308 and 6.5 CM) because everything was shooting low vs the ballistic calculator. I was thinking that I am not getting velocity that the manuals state.

Got the chrono setup and fired about 20 rounds of the 223 and only got maybe 10 reading. All the others were showing an error code/message. I only use this chrono once maybe 2 years ago when I got it. Packed up everything and headed to the long range so it would not be a wasted trip.

The 204 was good out to 400 yards and a few at 500. Up next was the 6.5 CM, first shot at 300 dead center, next 2 on the 400 and both found the steel. The last few were at 500 and they too were good. I hear the guys next to me talking about hitting the little man at 500 on the ground. Asked what they were talking about. They said look at the far-left hand side of the range and they was a steel 12-inch (maybe 18) man popper. They said try it, 2 shots and 2 hits. Figure I could not do any better, so I packed up and finished the day with conversations.

Talked my 17yo nephew who is a huge nerd and does nothing but play video games and watch YouTube into getting off the couch and going shooting for his first time ever. He had a great time and said he learned a lot. I let him shoot a Glock 45, 43, my Roland special 19, a M&P pro with Delta point on it, my Daniel Defense AR and my .300blk pistol. He liked my Roland special the best out of the handguns and my Daniel Defense the best out of rifles.

Took the two 15 year old stooges this morning (grandson and his bud, they look like mutt and jeff). Shot a couple hundred rounds through my AR, both did fairly well. Then for nostalgia purposes I pulled out the M1 carbine. They drilled with that thing so I guess I'll keep it. Then it was off to the pistol pit where they both embarrassed themselves. Last trip to the pits they only shot 22's and did really well. This time it was with a 9 and they couldn't quite figure out the recoil. Lots more work to do there.

Next trip is with AK's and AR10's. Trying to introduce them to all types of weapons, then concentrate on their preferences. For their birthday present they want to shoot the 50, that will be video'd

Spent an hour at Triangle Shooting Academy tried my new Beretta M9A1 .22,
pleasure to shoot, ran 200 rounds in it plus some in my GSG 1911-22 and Sig Mosquito, no suppressors today.
Ran 50 rounds 9mm in the M&P and Beretta 92S.

I have both of those guns, and they both are very good shooters. The Sig loves Thunderbolt.

I've been using the 11,000 rounds of Winchester ammo that I won three years ago at the Triangle Friends NRA dinner raffle, 10K+ left,
got a bucket of Thunderbolt on promo and CCI minimag. Nice triggers on all three.

285 rounds of various ammo through my new Canik Tp9SF. All 115 grain range ammo. It ran all of them flawlessly. I even managed a few rounds into the x ring at 25 yds. I only stopped shooting because my knees were kickin today. I think I'm in love.:)

Next time way less coffee in the morning. I have a feeling this gun would have shot like a laser beam into the X if I could hold still!

Went to zero in the 204 Ruger after changing out scopes. In the past I have been shooting 32 and 40 grn V-max bullets. Today I grabbed 40 Nosler 32 grn. HPs. They night hit harder out to 200ish yards but not as accurate as the V-max. Without a spotter you cannot see or hear them hit steel at 300 yards.

Went to Frontline this morning. Took a friend who had never been there before. He shot his Sharps 45/70 and I shot my 44 mag Rossi. I have the Rossi scoped now, and got it dialed in @100yds. Getting about 2.5” groups with an occasional outlier. Very happy with that.

I also had some test loads in 223 to compare neck-turned brass with non-neck-turned. I have not measured the actual dimensions yet, but through the scope I did not see a significant difference in accuracy, but the velocity spreads were half with the neck turned. That should translate to more accuracy at longer distances. It was an eye opener for me.

Took niece #2 out for HER first time shooting today. She rocked the Heritage Arms .22, got intimidated by the Px4, and finished with the .32 Tomcat. I lost track of time, so I still haven’t shot my Sub-2000 yet.

Going to try to take my nephew before the end of the year. That would make 5 people I took for their first time in 2018.
