Did You Go Shooting Today

Took my youngest daughter and her husband to RCWA for a couple of hours with 22's. The rifle range was busy so we found one of the long pistol bays. I had some fun targets printed out of coins (15 coins, largest to the smallest I have) for a contest. The ammo was mixed left overs in a box, no cherry picking, grab one at a time to load. You don't know what you'll get. The usual bet, looser buys coffee.

We used normal targets for warm up/sight in. 5 shots. Mine were good, had some setting in to do. Hers was bad, thought she would be buying.;) His, you could cover with a dime, oh, oh.

Time for the record. She did real good, 11 hits :( (sandbagger). He and I both had 8 and needed a shoot off of at 6 targets.

They thanked me for the coffee.

Took may SIL shooting yesterday and he feel in lover with the 6.5 CM. Couple shots at 300 and 400 yard 20" steel. Close to dead center. Then out to 500 - 20" round steel and went 3 for 3 on a 20" round steel. Last 3 shoots at 525 yards, a 18" diamond. First two shots just off the target left, last shot dead center. We left on a good note.

Finally got back out. Been about a month. Took a buddy that has never shot. Spent time on the range rules and the 4 basic rules. Started him out with empty gun and basic controls manipulation. SR22 was up first. Then loaded 1 round. Let him shoot one at a time for a bit. Then loaded 3 rounds. Then 4. Let him get comfortable and noticed he was getting comfortable with the mag and slide release. Safety habits were solid. Then we went to my CZ P07. The increased recoil and noise got him a little at first but a few mags in he was getting better. We also shot my new P10c. It functioned 100% out of the box. Mag release was stiff which seems common for these.

My buddy kept everything on paper at 10 yards. By the end almost all his shots were in the black and he had a few bulls to brag about. He took home a few targets to show off. We had fun and were safe so all was a success. He is looking forward to going again so a win for the good guys.

One of my shooting buddys and I went to Sure Shot near Havelock yesterday. Shot the 500 yard range and the steel targets range. The 500 yard range could stand a bit of work (yard markers, more steel targets a various distances) but it is still a very nice range. My 3rd trip. First two were a couple of years for an NCGO meet and greet/fun shoot. We need to do that again either there or maybe Front Line Defence. GITRDUUUUUUNNNNN

I wanted to go today but unfortunately the rain in Hickory was so bad I was forced to board Noah’s Ark.

Rained here off and on all day. Soooo, Of Course we shot! RaceReadyRedGT and I shot his new CZ compact. Big fun!! We had several talkers and eaters and even got some shooting done! Today, the last day of the year we will end '18 like we started it...shooting. Again, raining and overcast. Nasty...great time to shoot!

Illum for New Years Eve!

Took my nephew to TSA today. The 6th person I introduced to shooting in 2018.

All 6 have had a good time.

Today was a .22 revolver, my 9mm Px4, and my Stag AR. I need nicer stuff if I’m going to keep taking noobs to the guntry club.

@BatteryOaksBilly and myself got 2019 off with a bang. A full oxygen cylinder shot with a 7.62X39 makes a big bang. This was followed up with some .22LR fired in Ruger semi auto pistols. A good way to start the new year.

Speaking of a big bang....wondering if Billy has tannerite in his bag o' tricks! I've seen videos of it being shot at! I wanna see some!!

I have one pound here. I have never mixed or shot any but these ole boys that come here love to here it go Bang. The oxygen bottle was amazing. That thing weighs a few pounds and when it went off it flew over 25 yards downrange and hit some 600 pound tires with some authority.

Ooooh....Millie likey big bang and big fire!!! Lol. (You'd think Millie was 12 years old, right?)

January 26th is Millie's range day. Any in the area are welcome to stop be and greet her. If not in the immediate area, I'm thinking it will be worth the trip.
I'm very much looking forward to it, and for sure any who stop by will have a laugh or two, as you all know what a newbie I am!! But I've gotten a bit of shooting in since joining the forum, so maybe you might be surprised?? Lol.

I haven't been today, but I will tomorrow! Report to follow, maybe pics too!

not today but yesterday. Shot some Aguila SV out of my new Savage Mark II F clearance rifle. Smells just like winning and superglue!

Also shot a S&W Perf Center Shield in .40 short and weak. I had to drift the rear sight from all the way left to center (from the factory [emoji849]) but afterward it's nice and snappy with 165s. Sure throws my dualing tree paddles around with authority.
I think that 165gr American Eagle FP-FMJ is right at 460ft/lbs at the muzzle maybe a smidge over. Sure would like to know what 9mm load can do that ;)

Well... yesterday had another lesson with my trainer. Had an actual belt and a holster other than the Sticky, and he had me draw the gun, shoot and scan side to side then shoot again. Also shot left-handed and one-handed, both sides....a revelation about the wonders of recoil! Lol. When I shoot with my left, I shoot high and right. With my right, the usual low and left...but that's slowly getting better!
Altogether another great day at Jim's, which I've now got membership to....meaning I can shoot pretty much any time I want!! Yay!

Shot some benchrest 22 yesterday. Trying out different shooting techniques. With the shooting hand, just have thumb on top and finger on trigger. No gripping the stock. Left arm for rear rest which is what I am use to. I do well with a squeeze bag also. But will be shooting a match this month where no rear bags allowed.

It was pouring down when I left the house yesterday. But I had about two hours of no rain while at the range which was nice. Rain started just when I was leaving.

Where in the hell could a person in North Carolina go this fall and winter with no rain pouring down everyday? Mu, muck, slush, I’m sick of this crap. Bring on the drought.

Yea! It has been bad this year. There is a bright thing in the sky this morning. Not quite sure what it is. But some say it is called the Sun. What ever that is. Windy as could be too 5 to 13 mph.

I have heard of this thing you call the sun. Is it real. I want to see it again before I die.

Yes. And it was glorious.

Had been trying to schedule a trip with my son (12), his friend who happens to be a girl (that’s all I’m allowed to call it), and her dad. We’ve been postponed twice in the last month, once for rain and once for her breaking a finger on her shooting hand. So, today was the day. After I’d inquired to see if they had any interest, it turns out he’s a competitive pistol shooter that several people here (@FatboyFlash & @Mike Overlay among probably others) know. I’m hoping he joins up here...said he was on CSF but didn’t know this place existed. Let me see if I can remember all the details.

I know my son and I started with Chick-Fil-A on the way. Yummmmm...chicken minis!! Got to PHA and the gate was open. Turns out there was a plate match, using the bay we’d hoped to be in. I usually go during the week, so I’d checked the website and there was nothing on the calendar for today, and nothing under upcoming events. But evidently they have the match on the first Sat of each month.

Anyway...we decided to start at the rimfire range instead. We let the kiddos start out with the suppressed bolt guns. RAR w/ Sparrow and CZ 455 Tacticool w/ Element 2. She had never shot a rifle before, or used a scope, but it didn’t take long for her to get it down. Neither of them had ever shot a silencer. We shot mainly CCI SV, but used some AE HV and he was amazed at the difference with the sonic crack.

Took a couple breaks to shoot my GSG 1911-22 w/ Spectre, my S&W M&P 22 compact w/ Warlock and their Mark IV 22/45 w/ one of my Warlocks. I think we also shot just a little of my Rossi 8-shot 22LR revolver. But the kids both kept returning to the scoped bolt guns (or sniper rifles as my son calls them).

We also each had a turn with the giggle-stick, also known as my suppressed M&P 15-22 SBR (4.5” barrel and Spectre). It’s made more grown men giggle than anything else I own. Only took about 3 shots before I saw the grin appear on the guy’s face. :D. Also let some other random guy there try it out when he came down to see what we were shooting. My son put 3-4 mags through it. On the last one, he said he wanted to see how fast he could run through some ammo. While the speed definitely wasn’t bad, I was very impressed with his consistent pace.

I did put my new F1 can on the 15-22 (it was made for my AR57, but fits inside the 15-22 rail perfectly). From a shooter’s perspective it sounded great. Next time I’ll have somebody else shoot it so I can see what it sounds like. I’m considering making another one to dedicate to the 15-22 and free up the Spectre for some future host.

Packed up and moved over to one of the open bays...unfortunately not the top one I wanted, but we survived. First thing I wanted to do was try out my suppressed 9mm SBR after some issues last trip. I’d never had any issues out of it, but had multiple malfunctions last time out. Couldn’t get through more than 2-3 rounds before we had to clear a jam. (Has a different person with me that day who was trying out several of my firearms). I was hoping it was just an issue if it needing a good cleaning...and sure enough it ran flawlessly today. Got to do another demonstration of loading alternating subs and supers to show how ammo has a huge impact on sound, especially with a silencer.

Then it was time to try out the new F1 can. First we started with the PS90. Shot it unsuppressed first to make sure it was functioning properly. I was a little concerned because I noticed the barrel was loose when I was checking it last night. Needed to make sure the amount I tightened it was ok. Then I shot it with the Omega I always use with it, and then my F1 can. To me as the shooter, they sounded almost the same. My son had never shot it before, so I let him shoot it a little.

Then I moved to the AR57 SBR. First with the Spectre, then the F1. Again, to me, they sounded about the same. The other guy said the Spectre sounded quieter. Really need to do it again with somebody else shooting so I can see how it sounds.

After that I can’t remember the order of anything, but we shot:

His competition Pantera .40
My Glock 21 w/ Osprey 45
My Pitbull 45
My 10.5” 5.56 SBR with Saker 5.56
His duty-issued M4
My 12.5” 20ga youth 870
My 14” 12ga police magnum 870
My AOW/Shockwave
My 2” Rossi .357 (let him run one load of alternating 38/357)
Maybe my G22 or G23?

He was blown away by the suppressed 5.56. Already starting talks to see if his department could get cans. PHA’s only real restriction is full auto, so we didn’t get to let loose with mag dumps or extended strings. We did let my son attempt a single shot followed by a couple 2-round bursts, and I think he pulled it off quite well:

After that, we asked what they wanted to shoot again. No real surprise, but the bolt guns came back out. Snagged an awesome pic of the two of them:

AC507140-BEE6-4314-8A6C-EB459F640A3F.jpeg

Stayed roughly four hours, then we all had Chick-Fil-A on the way home. Bored the mess out of the kiddos having discussions about silencers the whole time.

Cost me two meals at CFA, some gas, and a little ammo. A little more expensive for him...as within a couple hours of being home he’d ordered her a RAR and is trying to figure out individual vs trust for a rimfire can.

Worked on my tiny .380 skills today. Pico is a tough trigger! I need to avoid staging. Darned if I don't shoot better when I just do it instead of trying to sneak up on it!

Put another hundred through the Canik TP9SF. 718 rounds and counting. May go again tomorrow, I haven't worked much with my EDC since I got the Canik.

Today is going to be around 60F and sunny. Going to go out and get some outdoor live fire today. Plan to run the El Prez drill to get a base line for my dry fire training. I really want to put time into dry fire this years and improve my pistol skills. Might even take an AR-15 out and try my luck on the El Prez with the rifle.

Appears like @BigWaylon has some guns to clean today.

That I did! Had to zero an AR I rebarreled.

My neighbor came with (identity blurred to protect identity...did I go overboard? [emoji12]) and wanted to zero a rifle he acquired. An old Mauser rebarreled in 250 Savage. Check out that old J Unertl scope! The reticle is fixed and the WHOLE SCOPE MOVES when you dial the turrets. It also SLIDES fore and aft with a return spring to presumably absorb recoil? Eye relief was like .5”.. Probably nothing new to some of you old codgers here [emoji16] but totally new to me. Turns out it wouldn’t even chamber a round so he has more figuring out to do...
