Did You Go Shooting Today

Finally got my scope on my 5.56mm 10.3" upper zeroed in. Also did some steel target work with the G17.

What kind of accuracy/range do you get out of the short barrel? I've got an 8.5" upper and have toyed with the idea of putting a scope on it just to see what it is capable of.

The gun.

A tight grouped, punched out target is just plain sexy..hahaha! I shot my new "bad breath" pistol ( Springfield 911 .380) yesterday trying to get it broken in and trying different ammo. I also fired a few magazines of .45ACP with my M1911. Fifty two rounds of the .380, twenty eight rounds .45ACP. Sorry, no pics.

Sporting Clays at Rose Hill. Nice day, new good friends, shot pretty well. Not impressed with course. Just a bunch of trap machines scattered about a cow pasture.

Went and fired some Soviet PM pistols today (Makarov's) in 9x18. Now these pistols were not made by the Soviets or any of the former WARSAW pact or China. These were made out of soft metals in either India or Pakistan. Lots of issues from guns firing went safety going on, firing when chambering and slide shooting off frame, firing a 3 round burst when chambering, feeding issues, light DA hits, sears splitting, frames bending. In other words JUNK! But some ANA soldiers rely on these as their take home guns in case the Taliban attack them. Guns also do not have a serial number on the frame, only on the slide and slide is dented when they stamp the SN on the slide crooked.IMG_4929.JPG IMG_4930.JPG

So probably safe to say these are Khyber Pass specials? Firing while chamber = no bueno. Firing a 3 rd burst while chambering = scrapyard. I'd hate to have to rely on such POSes for business purposes.

Not Khyber Pass guns, but manufactured in either Pakistan or India. Looks good but soft metal.

Spent the morning/afternoon at Rockingham County Gun Club today, shooting trap singles
One of my students got highest overall (of ALL the kids there), and our team placed second.
I didnt do as good, only shot a 70, first competition. Hoping to improve over time!

Was a good day though!

25 single draws with one round on target from 7 yards. Had to meet the alarm man. Back at it tomorrow with my regulars. And one irregular "Geezer".

I was packed and ready to go to the match at 6AM, but also trying to determine whether a family member needed to go to the hospital at that precise moment. Family member survived, but no pew pew for me yesterday.

Ok, that deserves a pass and a like for you. ;);)

Bought a xd mod 2 four inch in 9mil today. Brought it home and put 50 rounds through it and 10 rounds through my grandpas 30-30 I inherited two weeks ago. It felt good shooting his rifle, almost as if he were watching.

Last weekend, Stoeger class, 1300 rounds in two days.
This weekend, Friday: new TriStar P120, put 200 rounds through it, then run a hundred or two through the G17 dot drills and plate rack since my target stands don't fit in the car and the wife had my truck :(
Saturday: CGGR monthly USPSA, I'm gonna say it was one of my best match performances, certainly didn't all go great.
Sunday: wife wants to go to the range, wife kills that plate rack all the way back to 25yds, kid rings his first steel, I take the compounding leg soreness from the last week+ to heart and shoot stationary, working a weakness with "Distance change up" Think I'll push the headbox to 20yds or only accept upper As next time. Pretty good day.

Finally got to break in a couple new guns.

Put 100 or so rounds through my Ruger SR-22. The DA trigger is about a country mike long but SA is a lot of fun. Nice to be able to dry fire a 22. You were right @Zbizzle911. :)

Then, something I've been waiting months for, the Sig P365. Ran 50 rounds of cheap 115 gr to see what it does with weak loads. Not a hiccup. Then ran a box of WWB 124 gr NATO. I could definitely feel a difference with the hotter loads. Yes, the grip is small but I didn't have trouble controlling it (or any more trouble than I have with EVERY other gun I own). With the flat base plate magazine, I don't care for the grip but with the pinkie base plate, all's good. I believe I'd like to try the 12 round magazine and will order one as soon as I've saved up the necessary $500.

Was going to get some trigger time this afternoon, but ... rain.

A day without burnt powder is like a day without sunshine.

Finally found a break in the schedule and got to shoot some highpower rifle practice this morning. Had a good session too, shooting a 194-7X offhand and a 199-13X rapid fire sitting, both at 200 yards.

I had to give up one 8 to the range gods though.

Last night I stopped by ProShots and tried out my new carry pistol. Put 75 rounds or so through it which was pretty much all I had with me. Took a little getting used to the trigger but by the third mag or so I had tightened my grouping up enough to satisfy me.

After that I took out my pmr30 where I hadn't unpacked it from my backup bag and emptied the 2 mags I had with it. Gotta say I love that pistol...lotsa rounds and nice short trigger.

All in all a worthwhile stop seeing it was 30 minutes until closing time.

PMR30 is on my list. I have often thought that one of those might make a good home defense weapon.

Got to spend 4 hours at the range today shooting out to 300 yards with my very good friend @11B CIB

While I sure as hell can't put groups down range like he does it was a great time shooting and I am getting better. Beautiful weather and we had the range to ourselves. Can't ask for much more than that...

Spent an hour and a half at H20 yesterday. A little shooting, and a little getting ducks in a row for today.

Loading up, and getting ready to go now, 22 steel match at watauga gun club, match starts at 10, I've been up since 4, either looking forward to it or dreading it I'm not sure which, but it's trigger time, today's the the day I pay for taking last summer off due to my health. Idpa next week,

Went yesterday for a bit...
My daughter shot about 150 out of her PK380 to knock the rust off. She hasnt been since Sept or Oct last year but still shot pretty well.
The wife ran about 250 rounds worth of drills with her EDC (PPQ 9mm) to shake the rust off, too. She doesnt shoot during the winter either lol. Then she broke out her Sig P220, a CZ PCR and a 75BD (had some fte issues with that one) for funsies.
Unlike them, I shoot during the winter, so I didn't do anything with my EDC. I did take a few that had never been fired by us simply to test function. A CZ Custom Shadow (ooohhhh, sooooo sweeeet!), a PPQ 45, a CZ P01 with CGW pro package I just got cerakoted (that little fool is pretty sweet, too), a CZ SP-01 Phantom, and I surprised the Mrs with her bday/mothers day present while we were there: a gray framed gen 4 G26.

It was a good, fun day for all three of us.
