Did You Go Shooting Today

My view this morning, at Frontline Defense.

That is a 9mm AR in the photo. It is fun, and challenging, hitting steel at 300 yards. Much easier at 200.

I also decided to finally get my qualification for the 1000 yard range. Using my 20" 223 AR, I just barely missed my first shot at 600, next 2 were no problem. I had one round left, so I hit the steel at 300 with my BUIS.

My dad and I went out yesterday. Shot a couple rounds of skeet and tested out a rifle. It's a Ron Powers Custom .223, water cooled, that a family friend inherited.

How hot does a bolt gun get to need to be water cooled?

I've shot 25-06 rifles that got decently hot. This rifle is one of a few made for shooting prarie dogs out of a custom semi truck, "the prarie dog war machine" [emoji14] I think they were getting a lot of rounds off, and the more constant the temp, the more consistent the gun. Sadly I don't have a picture of the semi and can only conjecture

I can remember when fine handguns and all platforms were sold in Gas stations and country stores. Damn, I'm old.
The kind of gas stations where somebody actually pumped the 25 cent gas for you?

Looks like his arms are already longer than mine. We will start gathering about 1 oc. I wish all you shooters were here to enjoy this beautiful day!!

I cant remember the name of that little clothing shop/general store in uptown Shelby that used to sell all the Boy Scout stuff thirty five years ago (long ago shut down). But I DO remember going there with dad for a flint and steel set and leaving with a Marlin Model 60.
Still have that little rifle.

Spent about four hours at Frontline Defense, had the 500 rifle side all to myself as well as the 300 rimfire,
Shot my M&P and Beretta ARX with my Omega and my Uzi .22 rifle.
Then 50 rounds of 9mm on pistol side then got out before the heavy rain started.

Chatted a bit during the rain with another member, he had a nice FN SCAR in .308 with ACOG, wow, that ACOG has very clear glass in it.
(You get what you pay for).
He was sighting in his RPR in 6.5 on the 100 range.

Yes, I went shooting today.

A friend where I work picked up his first AR last weekend (S&W Sporter II, at FG&G) so we went to TSA today at lunch and I showed him how to load and operate it. The factory installed sights were pretty much dead-on.

Due to circumstance, I've had that CZ Shadow 2 for about three weeks and havent been able to shoot it yet.
Changed that today. Punched some holes in paper at a few distances just to get a feel for ol girl...and I must say, ol girl feels good lol.

First mag out of tbe gun. Ever.
That'll do donkey, that'll do lol.

Of course, at 17 yards she opened up a little more. Likes to be high out there, I've got some work to do. Still more than adequate.

And this was the fifth mag from the gun. Now, Ive never made any bones about it...I am not a distance shooter with a handgun. I generally get excited if I keep the whole mag on paper at 25 yards, let alone inside the 6 ring. Again, got some work to do, pushing left a bit at distance but I am very pleased with the results.

I frikkin like this gun...

Cleveland Hardware in downtown Shelby more or less across from 1st Baptist Church sold a lot of guns back in the 60's-70's. When I was a kid there in the 60's AV Wray sold the Boy Scout stuff but did not sell firearms. The Roses store there had a barrel of milsurps.

There you go...AV Wrays. And youre right about the hardware store.
Memory playing tricks with me a bit lol

Took my daughter to the range today. It was my first day as a new member and we had our choice of placs to shoot with no people. Just quiet and peaceful. Would have been a perfect day if my CZ 512 didn't come up lame. :(

Yeah, I started a thread in the rimfire section about it. There is a decent chance it is user error. I cleaned it well after the last use and reassembled everything. The bolt is a little different in that gun and I haven't been shooting much so I could have reassembled wrong. I'll have to take it apart and try again.

Three co-workers and I went to Carolina Sporting Arms after work yesterday. Shot 122 rounds thru my Ruger American 9mm.

Yes and it was hot. I did a mix of different drills. The Test, The Casino drill and Bill Wilsons 5X5. I shot pretty well. My times and targets were not spectacular but they didn't suck either. I shot a Garthwaite BHP, DW Valykrie Commander in 9mm, a Les Baer TRS and a CGW 75B. All guns performed to the level of the shooter. All guns present can out perform said shooter. LOL

Took the missus with me on Tuesday, so she could get some trigger time with the AR I just put together for her & sighted in the Vortex Strike Eagle 1-6x24 that I finally got around to mounting on my 10.5" .300Blk AR. Put a mag or 3 through our carry 9mms, as well.

Haven’t read the posts, but just did two of Amorada Blanco. You guys have a great weekend!

She was nice enough but I wouldn't say photogenic. It was a struggle watching but I kept my mouth shut and left after about 5 minutes. They just left, so a couple of hours on range. Neither were from the South so of course they just left without sayin squat. Of well, whatcha gonna do?

She was asking for it Mike. I was watching you shoot, and you clearly said "Duck!"

That one dog on target cost me 25 seconds. Plus I had a preced also.
Good to meet ya Sir. This match is the worst I ever done but one I really liked all the stages on it.
