Did You Go Shooting Today

@Bullseye Baldee texted me yesterday morning, wanting to "send 4 pounds of lead downrange", so I packed my stuff and we headed off to FLD. We did not bother checking the website first, turns out they had another competition going on which shuts down everything except the 100 yard rifle range. It wasn't busy, so we setup there.

I was shooting just pistols, so I setup in front of a 25 yard target. I was mainly there to check function on a couple of guns. I took a 9mm and a 10mm Witness pistols, a Desert Eagle 50, and my S&W 460. The 10mm had a problem last time that I figured was mag related. I had tweeked the feed lips on the mag and it worked perfectly this time. The 9mm ran well this time, and the DE50 ejected all the spent brass in the same spot this time, so it must have just needed a little break-in. We finished up with a cylinder each in the 460 - always fun. BB shot his Pedersoli Sharps replica 45-70, launching 510gn cast bullets. He complained about a sore shoulder so I don't think he finished his 4 pound goal. I always carry a sissy-pad for him, but he just refuses to be seen wearing it. :D

I did! Took the new bright red fiber optic front/metal black rear sights on the G19 for a try. I think I'm encouraged by my shooting today! That red really was easy to see for my old eyes!
Also, I was advised not to think so much on the next range day and see how I do.

Yes, I am still breakin in my new 1911 that doesn't need broken it!

I really enjoy the new 9mm toy more than I expected. It's soft shooting and feels good in the hand.

A few hundred rounds every other day for another week or 2 and I may slow down. Life is good enough right now that I don't have too!

I shot with Larry Brown and a nice couple that may end up here at CFF! A fantastic weather day for shooting, a bit chilly, you know I love that! Only shot about 70 rounds but they were quality rounds and I did really well. I saved a target.

I shot at a coyote today but missed. He was trotting along at about 50 yards, and I think I shot a bit over him with a 625 in 45 Colt. He was still running after the 6th shot. I am a little out of practiced with a handgun but should have nailed him on the first shot. Next time.

shot 10 rounds of CCI minimag HP out of my trust squirrel 10/22 this morning while stalking the woods around the range. Had to swap out some trailcam cards and make sure the feeder was throwin' that apple corn

CCI MiniMags...The King of .22s.

With a 17.3 yard barrel how did you miss a 50 yard target? Must have some major flinch...
That's why he missed, Dang barrel is too long to stop swinging onto target!

Did some shooting with one of the guys that work down range with me. He came back last month and got his SC CCW this past weekend and we zero'd his new toys a G19X and AR. I'm zero'd to go deer hunting the morning with my M16A4 clone.

Bring your Pal by when you come. We'll be around the fire tomorrow after 1.

Barbara left to see her mother for a couple of day so I all day at the range. Took a bunch of different play toys: Walther Colt 1911-22, AR-15 pistol 300 BO, the new AR-9 pistol (first time it as seen a live round), Savage 308 and for its annual trip to the range the 1973 Trap-Door 45-70.
Everything was good except the Savage 308. Anything over 300 yards was a little off. When looking at the barrel towards the end of the stock (Boyd adjustable) it did not have even spacing on both sides of the barrel. I have the same gun in 6.5 CM and the same stock and have no problems out to 525 yards. Any suggestions?

Last shooter left about a half hour ago. Charlie showed all how to do The Wizard Cold-Concealed....Again. Our @Millie shot today. Strange....she hit 6 small Ox bottles in a row from 10 yards and then missed 11 in a row...all this in one string, standing in the same place, not moving....6 perfect hits on a fairly difficult target at 10 yards...then 11 straight misses.
I watched her like a hawk. I could not see that she changed anything, her hold, sight picture, and trigger press all looked the same. YET....6 perfect shots and 11 misses. It is obvious Something changed....I just couldn't see it.
I am at a loss.....I would say it is intentional BUT it upsets her so much it can't be. ????????

I wasted some ammo but amused the crowd. Then when no one was looking, I went 3 for 3 on the bowling pins.
I actually did see a couple of pins hit the ground out of the corner of my eye while I was at the oxygen bottle line. Didn't realize it was you shooting, nice work! lol.

Charlie was awesome!

I'm still shaking my head over those oxygen bottles, BB....what can I say? Now you understand my frustration, though, right? I cannot tell what I'm doing to account for those misses. LOL. I'll just have to keep at it, I guess.

@Millie
Given what happened today, perhaps you might pay attention to whether your shooting is usually better cold than after some rounds? Not sure what it means but it might be a clue to something.

Failed at the wizard shooting weak hand from the pocket. Need looser jeans next time. Just built my 10.3" AR pistol tonight so will range fire tomorrow and confirm zero on my Mauser 98 in .308 for tomorrow afternoons bear hunt. Think I'll use a box of Sierra 165 BTHPs that I reload back in 97'.

I may be wrong, but I think I had only about 10 shots of .22 on a different target before Billy had me shoot the bottles with 9mm.

I usually number my paper targets, so I may be able to go back and have a look and see if I can find a pattern....

Today was odd with the bottles, for sure! But I nailed those suckers....for a while, at least! LOL.

We missed you today. You can shoot those rifles on the 300 here if you want.

I did go shooting today. See Battery Oaks Billy: post #2097.
I can still see the oxygen bottles doing their dance! It was awesome!
I'll bring my video camera along with the Gopro next time I get to Conway.
Even try the drone for overhead video to see what we can see when you are on the line.

Yep, swinging a bowling pin at a 100 yds with my 12.5 spikes build. Also shot a ruger mkiv, I put a holosun on the pic rail dialed the up/down turret about 100 clicks and got it near the sights. also brought CMR 30 but was having mags issues

TSA in Raleigh for some rimfire therapy, Taurus Tracker, Sig Mosquito,
Beretta M9-22 and the Beretta Neos Inox 6" I just acquired used.

When I arrived there was a fire truck and EMS on site, I went in the lobby to
make sure they were open. One of the members had low blood sugar and they checked him out.
The RO's did a great job.

Had to dial in my 8.5" 300blk after swapping suppressors and ammo.

It was only 5 shots because I had to drop off a doe at the processor..

@Bullseye Baldee and I rode over to the Wake County range in Apex, it was my first time shooting there. I went there to shoot, I think BB just went there to socialize. :)

I had some 45acp loads to test, and also wanted to test function in a couple of guns. It was a nice experience and I will definitely be going back more often.

Had a lot of friends I havent seen in a while. Needed to catch up!

I finally did. 150 rounds in the G19. I was afraid I had forgotten how to shoot, and the first target was pretty bad, but the last wasn't so awful! I guess I need to shoot a lot and not take 10 days off!
