Did You Go Shooting Today

Went to TSA in Raleigh today to meet up with coworker, she wanted to try her Taurus revolver,
been a while since she used it and it may have been locked and it was loaded.
I was going to let her try my Ruger Mk III Hunter, Beretta M9-22, M&P 9, Beretta 92FS Compact and Glock 22 with 9mm barrel.
She never made it to the range, no text or calls, so I'm not sure what is going on.

After a couple of weeks I had to head to the range to shoot longer than 25 yards. Took the 204 Ruger, 308, 6.5 CM and the AR-9 pistol.

Let me begin by saying the wind can be very humbling. At 100 yards the small target on the corners were moving in the scope from right hand corner to left hand corner. Trick is to try to get it in the middle of the swing. Had to use 3 stakes to keep the targets from blowing over. I know the 204 and 6.5 i can shoot a M.O.A. or less at 100 yards and working out the kinks in the 308.

Next I put up at target at 25 to 30 yards to play around with the AR-9. This was maybe the 10 to 50th round put through the gun and first time and first time firing with the red dot. 30 rounds as fast as I could pull the trigger without and problems and all on the target. Was very happy with the results.

AR-9 pistol.
Is that the one you let me shoot, with the red dot on it? If so, I'd love to get my hands on it again! I really liked it....and kind of want one!
And down another rabbit hole I go.....nooooo! Lol.

Millie, the one that you shot was a carbine length AR-9. This is a pistol length. Barrel is 8" instead of 16" and there is a brace on it instead of a stock. A few inches shorter. A lot more fun to shoot. Head this way or next time I am at Billy's I will bring it. It is a great HD gun.

Thanks! You just let me know when you'll be at B. Oaks, and I'll meet you there! lol.

Me and 2 others went to a private range today. I went through 200 9mm, 100 7.62x39 and about 100 556.
Other guys were about the same. There were not real men though because neither owned a AK. I had them covered on that and ammo. One dude loved the SLR-95. I’m sad to say that I forgot how great a rifle it truly is.

Today was 1911 day....hadn't shot anything but the Glock for weeks!
Did 50 rounds of .45, and 90 of 9mm. Such nice triggers those 1911s have, I had almost forgotten! lol.
I had fun, and went home stress-free!

Only a little test run on a 20ga single shot with a 327 Fed chamber adapter. 6 shots of 32swl, couldn't tell where the first 3 landed.
Last 3 into the kitty litter bucket- I was aiming at the bottom, shoots a little high at 10 yards lol.
Tomorrow, 38spl.

Become one with the wind.

I don't recall which year it was but we were shooting 1000 yard f-class FTR at Butner. Morning was dead calm, lots of cleans that morning. After noon skies started looking kinda ugly. Third match a gust front came up and stayed for about an hour. Even the ranked long range guys were scratching their ass. Wind was predominately full value left to right. After working together with the shooters to the left of us we finally started getting on paper when we shot at the second target to the left of us. The targets at Butner are roughly 12 feet apart, roughly 12 feet of wind. Lots of bad words were being said that afternoon.

Went shooting at the Wake County range. I had some 45acp test loads, to compare small and large primers, using a new powder - Alliant Sport Pistol. I saw 39fps difference between large and small primers. Interestingly, I got exactly the same velocity with either CCI or Winchester large primers.

Yesterday, M&P357, Speer Lawman 125gr FMJ 357Sig, XS F8 sights. First time using these sights. Took me a minute to get used to them. The closer the target the higher the front dot has to be above the rear. Most of this was at 7 or 10 yards, it wasn't marked so I dont know. I like the sights but itll take some getting used to aiming. Past 10 I had to split the dot with the top of the rear, at 10 or closer I had to put the bottom of the dot on top of the rear sights. Some of the random no-hits were from all the way back, I wanted to see how it did, but that was short lived because I couldn't see where I was hitting. I shot my buddy's P10c with similar XS sights and put 30 rounds in the 10 and 9 ring in the head of his target. It has the same front sight but a hackathorn type rear, still had to aim a little higher but not nearly as high as mine.

Yep.

Suppressed 4” AR9 pistol
Suppressed 4.5” 15-22 SBR
Suppressed 7.5” 300BLK pistol
Suppressed 10.5” 5.56 SBR
11.5” 5.56 pistol

Three of them were to sight in red dots. The other two were to make sure they were ready for a training class in two weeks.

Then just a little handgun:
M&P 22
Buddy shot a couple pistols, a 1911 and his carry piece (it’s a S&W or Springfield I think...polymer 10+1 in .45)
Stanley TR150HL :D

Only problems I had:
1. Evidently left the red dot on from a couple days ago when bore sighting it, but I had spares.
2. 300BLK pistol (first time shooting it) had multiple issues of ejecting but not chambering the next round. I’ll troubleshoot that another day, or start a post elsewhere.

A little bit long.
Decided to go to the range today to try out the AR pistols (300 BO, 223 and 9 MM) for reliability testing and the Walther PPQ and Colt/Walther 1911-22.

Started with the Walther PPQ. I put another barrel on the gun. This one has a threaded end. The gun has been 100% with the original barrel. This barrel is the one that I got a round stuck in the chamber and had to take it to a smith to get it out. Shot about 30 rounds loaded with 231 without a problem. Then switch to some loaded with 700x. I did not have velocity on the label but they turned my semi-auto into a single shot gun. To make sure it was not the gun so I ran another magazine with the 231 loads and no problem. Next up was the 22 with the can. I just got 2 extra magazines I wanted to make sure there was no problem with them. No problem.
Now to screw up the day.
Got the 9 MM out of the case and I had a 30 round magazine load and shot right through them without a problem. Grabbed another 15 round magazine to try the 700x bullets. Stick it into the gun and the bolt will not shut. Dropped the magazine, then tried to pulled the bolt back and locked it open. Would not pull back. Pulled apart the upper and lower to get the bolt unstuck. Stuck the magazine back into the gun and hit the bottom of the magazine to make sure it was in good. Dropped the bolt and it would not close. Had to pull apart the gun again. Remember that I was shooting a PPQ. This AR uses a Glock magazine. What a dumb ass. Had problems the rest of the day with the right magazine. I think I might have bent the magazine release.

Next out was the 223 and went through a 30 round magazine without a problem.

To finish off the day, the 300 BO. I have posted in another thread about having problems with Missouri bullet in this gun. I was seating them short so this time I loaded them at the max OAL. Shot the first round and the next one jammed. Could not get the bolt back so had to take apart this gun. Less try this again, same problem. After the 3rd time I gave up on the bullets. To leave the range on a positive note, I loaded up some 300 BO that had Hornady 150 SP bullets about 1850 ft/sec. Ran through 20ish of them without a problem.

Got back home and just pulled about 30 rounds of 300 BO that had the Missouri bullets in them. Not sure if they will work in a 30-30 because of the weight.

Today at Battery Oaks, @Etruett came over for a visit. Captain Jerry and @garvin were there, too. We all shot a few rounds from the bunkhouse porch. It was pretty chilly with a cold rain coming down. We went back inside and solved some of the world's problems over some apple pie.

A buddy and I went to PHA today. Ran him through a couple of drills to see what he needed to work on, and I did some myself. I was getting consistent 1.6-1.8 draw to first round head shot, at 5-7 yards. I'm gonna get me one of those dang wizard shirts @BatteryOaksBilly, sooner or later, probably later, lol.
