Did You Go Shooting Today

Went to TSA last night with the wife. She shot her Witness 9mm and CZ 97 - her two favorite range guns. I took my EDC Sig 938 and a S&W 22A that I have not shot in a couple of years. That 22A is a pretty accurate gun! It was flawless with Remington Thunderbolt, but I had a few malfunctions with the bulk Winchester ammo. I think the nose profile of the bullets has something to do with the feeding in the mag.

Got home and cleaned everything up, sorted and decapped brass.

I bought a bunch of it at WM before discovering my M&P 22 doesn't like it. ;)

If you have a gun that likes Thunderbolts, you have found the unicorn of all rimfires. It probably won't run on any quality ammo.
:D I actually have a couple of guns that the Thunderbolts work pretty well in. I have a CMMG AR conversion that will eat them all day long. The only problem, being lead instead of plated, the chamber adapter will have leading that has to be cleaned out.

Now that 22LR can be found for under $0.05 a round, I think I will start using up some of the old 22LR ammo that I had tucked away, and buy some good stuff to replace it.

ya that's what I have been doing now that Academy has Fed blue 525 packs for $22 and Wally has 550s for $20. Time to burn em if you got em

Just back from shooting...

Actually, I have to correct myself. It's Federal in the 550 round Value Pack that my M&P doesn't like. Very strange, it is always the ONLY second round that doesn't feed. Doesn't matter which magazine, whether it is loaded to 12 or less.

Don't scare me like that....I don't have ANY friends to spare!
I went out to see whether the Shooting Fairy had suddenly given me some ability. I can now confirm...

There is no Shooting Fairy. :(

When the October M&G rolls around, will it be ok if I arrive at the very end of the event? That way, when you kick me out for being the worst you've ever seen...

it'll just look like I'm leaving with everybody else. o_O

Hell no. I worked in the blazing sun all day. I’m not shooting in the blessed hell. Tomorrow is 95 degrees. I’ll be in a 130 degree attic working too. So I’ll be inside a cooking range like in stove.

Did not really want to go out yesterday due to the heat, but I found out that an old classmate was going to be at Frontline helping his nephew give some demos on a few full-auto guns, so I gathered up my stuff, picked up another one of my old classmates and we headed up to the range. It was hot, somewhat miserable, but it was great to reconnect with someone I've only seen a couple of times since school. The shooting was fun enough to take my mind off the heat.

I took along my 20" AR and shot out to 500 yards. Could not easily tell if it was hitting the steel, but with the dry dusty berm, it was sure easy to tell if I missed. :D I also had my 9mm AR and had no problems hitting 200 yards. 300 yards was about 75%, and did manage to hit the 400 yard steel a couple of times.

We finished up at the pistol range. Between us, we had a Glock 19, Bersa 380, 44mag Desert Eagle, S&W 460, and S&W 500. We made some noise, emptied some brass, and then headed home with the AC cranked way up. Good times.

shot 100rds of .38 thru my 637-2 and SP101 .357 the other day. I had forgot that my reloads that feel mild in the SP feel like magnums out of the airweight. Did some plate drills, felt good. Was about 85 degrees at 8pm tha t evening, so not terrible. My lube is smoky :D

And the 135gr .38 +p Gold Dots that I got from @Jim1392 are hot and accurate. Probably gonna EDC them in my SP101

I went down to San-Lee Friday morning and forgot to post up. Lined up the iron sights on the Rock River Arms at 25 yards. Good nuff for me. Lined up the Strikefire II at 50 yards. Danged dot covered most of the target. All shots are on target. Good nuff for me.

On the Battery Oaks Range with Catfish of the CFF. 92 degrees same humidity. Mr. Catfish is indeed a good man with a handgun. We both shot The Wizard COLD...Neither of us passed. I had a head shot slightly low and he had an over the time limit shot. In all my shooting years I have never seen a more telling drill than The Wizard. Nor a better 5 shot drill. Charles is spending the night in The Bunk House. He and YOU are welcome to come and use the range when in the area. We shot steel from 1 to 10+ yards. Big Fun. See you all at the October gathering!!!
Cant find battery oaks, is this your private range?

Yes Millie, it is my home...and range....and refuge....and you are welcome. Big doings in October, check it out on the Forum. There are also pictures of the range somewhere on here. Come see us when you get this way! Billy
If October is nice and cool weatherwise I might have to make a pilgrimage! Thanks!

HELLYEAH!!

Celebrated freedom by shooting the "12 gauge firearm" for the first time. Not bad, I am taking a different view of it now. Still wouldn't buy one, but what the heck, I won it in a raffle. I think I'll keep it as is. I was considering paying the deuce and making a SBS out of it or selling/trading it.

Got the octagonal barrel on my Henry .22 nice and warm. Smooth as silk. I have to take my lead sled over there and get the peep sight "dialed in", the front was way off out of the box. I beat it to more or less center with a hammer (polymer) leaned up against the kitchen table. I was hoping to do that today, but I found out their lead sled is a POS and would have scratched up the rifle at best even if I would have been able to get it lined up on the target.

Finished off the session shooting a half box of .38 special out of my J-frame.

Overall a nice way to start the day!

Was at the range by 8:30. Shot the new CZ a bunch. Then a couple HK's. Last one was with a carry gun and some draw practice. Finished about 10 just as the heat started to pick up.

Gee I miss my wife and kids today. :p

Boys started right after dusk with a 40lb cartering charge followed by star clusters and 40mm star parachutes.

Happy Birthday America!

Set up two classifier stages and blasted a couple of hundred rounds, and closed the session with the obligatory pistol attempts at the steel at 100 yards. I usually get a few hits.

DING!

I had purchased a Stag-15 as a Black Friday deal, and today I finally broke it in with about 350 rounds. No problems at all other than the mlok hand guard getting really hot even with a vertical fore grip.

The range was really busy so I did not have time to really site in my red dot. 21 out of 25 shots in the head at 25 yards with no bench/seat/rest is good enough for now.

Nothing says Merica on the 4th of July better than practicing for the Zombie Apocalypse with an American made 1911 at the Gun Range. I am to lazy to post pic(s) of my targets at the moment, might get around to it later tonight or tomorrow. 200 rounds downrange this afternoon. I really need to consider getting a 1911 in 9mm.

Yep.

I had some test loads in 223 worked up, comparing headstamps and primers. Think I have settled on a good load now.

I had installed a scope on my lever action Rossi 44mag and wanted to get it sighted in. The groups I shoot with the scope are not much tighter than what I do with the iron sights, but it is easier for me to pick an aim point (can use just a small dot on the paper) and I can see the holes @ 50 yards. I also figured out that where you rest the gun makes a difference, it seems that just in front of the receiver is the best place.

Tested some more 22 ammo in the S&W 22A. It likes Armscor and Federal plated that I picked up at the last gun show.

Went to Wilkesboro (FDS) IDPA. Overcast, a cool 70deg to start, only spit rain at the very end. Never broke a sweat!

Didn't do as well as I wanted, 2 hits on a non threat (just flesh wounds!), messed up a tactical reload (pulled slide to load  already had one in the pipe = jam!), but still had fun!

Went to TSA at lunchtime today with a friend from work. All I took was a S&W 22A, along with 3 types of ammo to try. 40 rounds each of Aguila "Super Extra", Remington Golden Bullets, and CCI Mini-mag HP. I had just one fail-to-feed with the Aguila, no problems with the others. Moved the target out to 25 yards, shooting offhand, and kept about a 6" group. I was happy with that.

Yes I’m shooting now with Matt.Cross, baileyboat, Jay, and my son. Shooting some skeet and getting embarrassed.
