My SDB. 40 S&W caliber conversion has two seating stems, .40 S&W and 10mm. Whren loading .40 S&W, the OAL is good with Berry 180 grain plated FP. But, 180 grain Berry RN bullets, the OAL is more variable than I like. The question is, should I have a separate (3rd) seating stem for the .40 S&W RN bullets?

I know, I know . . . ask Dillon. But, I'm trying friendly territory first.

I don’t remember having different stems for those calibers, but common to have one for RN and another for SWC/FP. Just try the other stem and see what happens.

edit: yes, I’m talking about the sdb caliber conversion.

@Pink_Vapor Don't be "I's confruzed... I've always found Dillon was quite helpful and friendly." Sometimes, the rep that I'm talking with is not as patient as usual. Like others in the firearm related world, Dillon is swamped with tech questions. And shipping is not like it has been. I regret that I've implied that Dillon reps were unfriendly.

@JimB Yeah. Maybe the 10mm stem is for FP's?

Ignore the caliber markings, use the RN stem with RN bullets.

just checked and I don’t have those sdb dies anymore so don’t know how mine were marked, but I’m sure they are interchangeble.

I posted on the Dillon Forum and received the following response from Dillon:

We don't make a round nosed seat stem for 40 S&W/10mm. One stem has thinner walls than the other. The thin walled one is for truncated and HP projectiles, the thicker one is for SWC projectiles. The markings don't mean that much, use the seating stem that best fits the projectile."

Yep. I had 6 caliber change sets for the SDB I let go and some had 2 seating dies. One RN and one FP. Didnt matter which you used on what as long as you got the result you wanted.
