DIY 12v LED Lantern

I would be careful with the sealed jar and heat as it will cut the life of the led board and leds since there is no where for the heat to escape from the heat sinks and possibly crack the jar. Many of the bulbs like he is using state on packaging not to be used in a enclosed fixture for this reason. Cool design but I think I would fab it into a open container at one end.

Not really disputing anything but these thing barely got above room temp. These are ball mason jars for canning, so if these little leds do that then something is wrong.

If these boards melt oh well kinda thing as I paid a dollar and I just finished up running one for 6 hours straight without issue.

But if people actually decide they want me to make one then you dang skippy it's getting a vent hole lol.

If you build them. They will sell. Great job.

Thanks man. I'm not sure if they are worth selling but if someone wants one I'll put one or some together lol

Good to hear wasn't sure how hot they would get on long runs with no air exchanging, just knew what I had seen in the past on some of the bulb labels like you I think a smallish vent hole would take away any of that concern. Regardless its a cool idea. Wonder if you could get a 24v bulb and run it off say a 18v drill battery since its common and for easy recharges and long run times.

What is a home center? I put these together cause I had the stuff laying around and time to do it so it didn't cost me anything lol. Plus I bought the lights earlier his year to use on battery just in case the power went out. Didn't think at the time they would turn out like this lol

Plus minus batteries these costed maybe $4-5

I put fireflies in a jar and shake em for heat-free chemical light

Lol, I used to do that when I was a child

Getting ready just in case Irma decides to roll up and knock our power out. Most this stuff I had laying around.

I saw a woman in a hootchy cootchy show at a carnival that lit up a lightbulb but she did it much different.
This just made me sad that my Grandsons will never be able to see a hootchy cootchy show at a carnival. How many of you oldmen remember those shows and the cigar trick?

At your age now you're becoming one again!:D

Home Depot, Lowe's, Menards, etc. I have a few USB powered desk lights from Dollar Store,
they run for weeks on a 4AH USB battery pack for phones.

Oh the big box home improvement stores.

But either way, I had all this stuff laying around and these run off my battery packs from my RC stuff. These will be able to light up a room and since they wouldn't be ran for more than a couple hours each night, they would last a while.

If I could find my solar power bank then I would be set.

So where is the fun in buying them. I made them, they work and if I really wanted to put a price on them theyonly costed a few bucks and the one I made today runs on 5v with and solar charged for under 2$
