So finally joined a gun club (Woodys) and getting the band back together.

Stocked up of gun food

And trying out some new methods and designs for stands. Currently I been using the cheap flimsy steel (or aluminum?) folding saw horses. for the most part they work great. Mount a piece of plank wood on top to add more stability for heavier targets (like 1/2 AR500). While they hold up well to bullets, the problem is they no longer store compactly once they get all mangled.

So i wanted to build something that was simple, strong, and made of a few components that can be replaced, but most importantly broken down for easy transport. Wood saw horses are the WORST BTW. they get shredded to pieces from rifle spalling and make a mess of your vehicle.

Will post some shooting vids and such at the range with other targets. more stand designs to come as well...

Supplies:
-10ft 3/4 EMT conduit (x2)
-3/4 compressed/threaded adapter (x4)
-3/4 elbow joint (x2)
-3ft of 1 inch perforated zinc tubing
-2in 5/16 U hooks (x3)
-assortment of 5/16 paraphernalia
-hacksaw
-steel targets

Some photos of the build process and the finished product with two 12inx.5in AR500 plates. The modular design can accept a few configurations. I will be building another one with a 4 or 5ft cross bar for a 5-6 target rack in near future.

EMT can be a great solution for a portable, no-weld target stand. I built my first one using a normal wooden base, some EMT clamps, and just made a hoop and hung steel targets by chains.

Nice. Mine is out of black iron gas pipe making it more durable. Portable is the best thing about it. Enjoy.
Thought about iron too. Having never worked with it though I wasn't sure if the tools I had on hand would work well for drilling and cutting etc. Do those roller blade pipe utter wrench things work on black iron?

That's how I do mine but I use these iron things. I'm going to change to rebar and weld those ring things to the rebar. It will then be three pieces.

Back in the day dad had swingers that used welded A-frame legs, the tops were regular old nuts, 3/4 or so which tilted snugly on a 1/2 cross piece. May cut costs on yours or others project.

I have some of the last stand things and it just takes rebar:

Not my photo. I only have the things in the corners and I use chain for the steel. Super easy

There are roller cutters for conduit and others for black iron. A cutter for emt will not cut black iron. The one you made is a great project for others to follow. No special tools and easy items to obtain.

I just removed all my gongs and a large plate for torso painting. Lost my long range field to being sold. I’ll probably sell them as I have a mobile couple sets.

These are some of the 'flimsy' saw horse stands I have. If I shot on my own property, these would be perfect. But traveling with them mangled up becomes challenging as the stop fitting nicely stacked in my cart...I mean tactical garden wagon....the blow outs are also razor sharp, which translates to more slower, more careful handling with each use (and pray I dont forget my thick gloves). the one in center is brand new. one on left is fairly new replacements and already getting lots of duct tape to protect from cuts. Very cheap, light and almost no work to convert to stand though. so def good budget option for property owners who only need to shift around course of fire here and there.

Close up of the one with pallet wood panel for extra strength. This is same one as the above (on right) over a year and hundreds of rounds later. I only used this one for rifle, which is naturally a more accurate method of sending lead down range :)

but when they stop packing nicely, things get a bit silly.

tried using something like these and 2x4 before they were terrible
recently bought a set of these, 2 8ft 2x4, and a 10ft 4x6. put a dozen or so hooks in and the setup can hang a pretty good amount of steel. I need to bed the legs in better because if you hammer one target, the others start swinging too.

I just posted a link to cheap AR500 under "Hot Deals". One item I strongly recommend and which will make your lives so much easier is...
