the impression she got was that it wasn’t a dodge. They honestly didn’t know until they were able to asses and wanted to get headed toward the city. They love a bit out in the sticks. She was called quickly with update and location.

This is very likely the case. Everything is still full of uncertainty and they likely called their supervisor on the way to make sure where they were to supposed to go.

Protocols are being put in place for what do to when you come in contact with a patient but as you can imagine It’s a little nerve wracking when you actually come in contact with an actual case. I’m thankful I’m no longer in EMS full time. Don’t want to be near any of this mess.

I'm with @Chdamn on this... BS... People dying alone without their loved ones is beyond BS...

It sucks, yes, but it’s not BS. Those protocols are in place for the protection of you and others. If you don’t have it yet they don’t want you going in the room and likely contracting it and then spreading it further.

My brother has it, as well as his GF. They are in Minnesota. They were told to go home and quarantine since their symptoms were mild.

Turns out a girl I went to high school with had it and has gotten over it. She said it was awful, never been so sick in her life.

Know 4 folks that have or had it. One died, another with existing lung problems is near death and the other 2 just sick at home. These folks live in Forsyth and Davie county's.
A marine friend ROTC instructor that lives in Bronx, had a coworker got sick and was dead in 3 days.

For those of you who know people that passed, I'd be curious to know their ages and general health situation.

Me as well. My mom is 90 and after posting this thread I have told everyone to stay away from her and for her to call the youngers to shop for her and leave items on the porch.

We've been doing that with my 84 yr old mom and 83 yr old MIL for 2 weeks. I know what the experts are saying and the modelling from various think tanks but it's been 2 weeks and now the powers that be want another 4 weeks. Makes me feel like they (the government, etc.) dont know what the hell they are doing.

I think that the problem is this has never happened before and even the experts do not know for sure how to handle this virus. Not to mention the people that are walking around not keeping social distancing while saying "no one is going to tell me what to do" while they are spreading the virus. With that kind of mentality this is going to keep on going for a lot longer.

Wife’s childhood friend has it. Early 30’s. No Pre-existing conditions.

Currently she is at home recovering but she is on bed rest. She posted a video the other day. She sounded like someone on the verge of an asthma attack or severe smoker. Just talking slowly for a few minutes sounded exhausting.

Damn, this thing is starting to hit close to home. Best wishes to all of you that are affected.

You've come to the right place then.

I think one problem is a fractured medical system. The CDC was investigating firearms as a medical problem. There are umpteen ideas about getting a test. You can't get a test in a hospital, but you can go to a parking lot for one.

Another big deal is the layers of the legal system. If you have a few hours, there are a lot of articles about New York being tied in knots about what their docs can do and can't do. But I digress.

my brother-in-law works at a mfg plant and one of his close co-workers relatives have apparently been diagnose so they shut down the plant. He called me to warn me and I ask him if the co-worker has shown any sign of sickness. He answered no not yet. I'm not really worried about it since nobody in my house is in the high-risk group. We've taken precautions and I take 2000mg of Vitamin C daily for the entire flu season, eat a good diet get exercise and stay hydrated. Same goes for my wife. We hardly ever get sick. I can count the number of times on one hand for the last decade. It further bears out that 95% of the European cases have been over the age of 60 with underlying health issues. So basically, people who would die from regular influenza are most at risk.

But these allergies and this non-stop coating of pollen is making it hard to distinguish the sick from allergies.

Man, you are so right about the allergies. Pretty bad day today for me. I delayed a trip to Lowes as not to freak out the customers with my sneezing and blood shot eyes. sneezing quieted down now after Allegra, Flonase and Pataday eye drops (at least starting this year Pataday is over the counter, didn’t have to go for an allergist visit).

Doctors who know more than either of us are saying "Because it is a new virus there is no immunity to this. If you come into contact with it, you *WILL* catch it" I'm sure your healthy habits lower your risk of a bad outcome but they do nothing as far as prevention. This is a new concept for me today and will affect how I behave going forward.

No positives, but two maybes for me. I have one friend who's a nurse, who has been sent home for quarantine until her tests come back, and a coworker who had a possible exposure who's also been quarantined pending their test results.

TL;DW
The CDC and other medical authorities haven't officially determined that it's 'airborne' other than in droplets.......thus the reason for the 6ft social distancing guidelines.

Perhaps no immunity to this particular coronavirus...........however it behaves / spreads in droplets just like the common cold..... which is also a coronavirus and nobody is immune to the common cold either. Pneumonia kills for sure.

BTW just heard from my B-I-L that his co-worker tested negative. Like I said, we've taken precautions. My sister worn an N-95 mask to her OB-GYN appointment that I provided her, along with nitrile gloves and hand sanitizer. BTW my sister is an RN......and had none of these things at home.

Montgomery county N.C. list a deputy Tuesday night. 44 year old male left behind a wife and 5 children.

No health issues and within 2-4 days he’s gone.

I heard about that one but didn't mention underlying health issues. Looks like he was Hmong / Montanyards etc. I have never met one of them that didn't smoke. Even the kids. Saw a ten year old Hmong girl smoking on the Cove Road boat ramp a few years ago while out fishing.

That for sure.

Starting to hit close to home. Stanly Regional
Is starting to call in retired Dr.s and nurses to prepare for the coming wave.

Update. My sister-in-law is rapidly improving. They took the guard off her door when they were sure she would not try going AMA.
She said she may be released to go home soon. Her husband has been tested for CV. Don't know those results yet.

Update again.
On admission her O2 sat was 60%
They gave her the drug cocktail that Cuomo and other D governors had banned for use, and within hours her O2 was rising.
She's home already.

The south is getting ready to play a fun game of allergies or plague?

Still waiting on the test for my sisters GF. Don't think my sister is showing any signs though as of yesterday.

I hear everyone that's hospitalized is being put on a pizza diet.

It's the only thing that'll easily slide under the door. :D

Too soon?

We slightly chuckle, but my wife who generally doesn't have too terrible of allergies was hit hard on Tuesday, felt horrible. Had all of the symptoms of the flu except cough and fever...felt the same yesterday and we were wondering how she could have caught the WuFlu...but then today woke up much better after a few days of Benadryl and other allergy meds.

I have seasonal allergies also. I have constantly been checking my forehead to see if I have a temperature. It has been so bad for me this year I started doubling up my claritin dosage. One in the morning and one when I go to bed. Even with that I still wake up congested in one nostril. Takes around 20 minutes blowing stuff out of my nose until I am clear.

Do not know what it is, I can be clear all day, but once I lay down to go to sleep, the congestion hits.

well, my cousin's husband was diagnosed with C-19.
55 years old. no other medical issues evident.
she now has a fever.

I honestly think I had it. I'm 29, very healthy and very rarely get sick. A few weeks ago I got an itch in my throat out of nowhere. Next morning I woke up and have severe throat pain along with congestion and head pressure. I developed a nasty cough and had a respiratory infection of some sort as I was coughing up and bunch stuff. Then came body aches and a mild fever for an evening. Things started to clear up but I retained the cough and continued coughing up stuff for the next few days. Then I developed chest and back pain with periods of shortness of breath. I would equate the coughing to when I had pneumonia when I was younger. Like I said, I rarely get sick and never go to the doctor so I didn't think much of it but with everything going on I went to the doctor after about a week and a half of this but at this point I felt alright aside from a slight cough and mild lingering chest pain when breathing. For whatever reason they didn't test me for anything and just told me it was the flu based on symptoms and gave me a z pack and sent me home. I've never coughed up stuff like this with just the flu. This was a couple weeks ago now.

It will be interesting to see if they come up with an antibody test in the next year so they can determine how much of the population actually got it. I think it would provide huge insight for future viruses to see how fast a new virus can spread across the globe.

Then maybe the regulating bodies would have their crap together for the next one. (I know...wishful thinking)

That actually does sound more like the flu, it's been nasty this year.

I've never had chest and back pain, a cough, or coughed stuff up with the flu. I read an article about a nurse who contracted covid and her biggest complaint was chest and back pain when breathing.

Was the plant in Monroe? I'm getting stationed on standby in Charlotte for the foreseeable future in case said plant has positives.

That's the thing about America and our mentality since the get-go (no, not of this, but 1700s).
We dont like our gov, or, really, anyone else, telling us what we cant do.
And in this case it could really hurt us.
Im at fault too, I admit.

Oh, and we got notification that an employee at a different school has tested positive for it.
So I feel for that person's coworkers and all they came in contact with. As well as ANYONE with this and their families who are struggling right

Bump.

My wife tested positive today. She's a 46 year old RN in surgical services at the local hospital.

Dang, man. Best of luck to you both, and let us know how she does!

My sis-in-law, her husband, and 3 of 4 of their kids had it (they are near Hickory). Her husband's grandparents both had it (also Hickory). My nephew's wife had it (Dallas). I know a handful of docs and nurses who had it.

A manager of a team I work closely with contracted it a week or so ago. He is now in ICU with double pneumonia.
