I put all my lever action rifles into gun socks in the safe but have a problem pulling the right gun out without going one by one till I find the one I am looking for.

Thinking about getting the embroider. Thought about some type of tag but do not want to take a chance of scratching the gun.

Has anybody done this? And if you have, how much does it usually cost.

I want something like: 357, 44, Pre-65, 30-30 on them.

I have handguns jammed into a small safe like pickles in a jar. This causes the same problem you have. Iā€™ve considered attaching tags, using those t-shaped thingies that hold tags to clothing in stores. Havenā€™t gotten around to trying it yet.

Silly me. Buried somewhere, I've got a few of these left from a re-cabling project. The tag portion is pretty small but they might still work.

Jeppo, I was using a zip-tie but when I put it on the barrel I could not get it over the sight and the paper I used would rip. The above one, can you unzip it?

I have a friend that has an embroidery business. I can ask if he would do it, if you like... He's a fellow 2A guy, so the fact it was for a gun would not be an issue. He is located in Morganton NC.

What about some kind of velcro patch, that way they're reusable and you can change them around if you need to - have the soft part sewn into the sock then just attach a patch as you see fit.

Jody, that might be a good business idea for your friend. I know that I have 6 or 7 that I would like to have done if the price is right. I am going to see if anybody here does it. I asked a client that does embroidery but she said they need a special attachment to do the rifle sock.

Never thought about the embroidery for the socks. Wife has a PE770 machine. I think I will play tomorrow and see what I can destroy! I will post a pic If I can get it to come out ok

Do you always find that the one gun you want to pull out of the safe is the very one that is buried in the back of the safe?

Just spoke with him via text. He said he has not tried one. He personally has some, and will try some this weekend. I'll let you know what he comes up with.

Instead of the sock it self I just threw together a tag. Did not sew it on yet. Want to try smaller lettering right on the sock first.

I'm cheap. How about a small piece of duct tape and a sharpie. Different color sharpie for different calibers?

My idea was to attach the zip tie thru the seam in the sock. Hereā€™s the beta.

Put it on the sock. Works good. Can see it when the light is off in the safe, so that works.

This is what I am thinking. ECNC, who did the work for you?

Me , Myself and I. My wife and I bought a machine a few years ago. She uses it all the time and every once in a while I will sit down with it.

This thread motivated me to face this issue. I think this solution is gonna work for me. When a gun gets replaced, itā€™ll be simple to change the tag.

UPDATE:
I could not find anybody that has a machine that has a long enough arm to embroider the sock in the middle of the sock. Stopped by an embroidery shop today to see what they suggest.
OUT COME:
Since the sock is about 8 to 14" longer than the rifles, I decided to try one sock with the embroidery at the very top of the sock. They will have to go through both sides of the sock. It will be about an inch from the top. Having Pre-64 done on this one. It should be back sometime next week. The cost is $5.00 If it looks good, I told her that I will have maybe 6 or 7 more.
Will post a picture when I get it back.

I did the one for my Henry that way. It was easier to pin in the hoop then I thought it would be. Will post a pic tomorrow when I get a chance.

All guns are back in their socks with name tags.

Somebody got ambitious!!! They look good! I should get some energy and do the same.

Just did some embroidery toilet paper for someone I know is moving and have some t-shirts to do for someone. Then maybe I will do my stuff.

Damn, and all this time I've just been using a piece of masking tape stuck to the sock.
Kinda reminds me of the US Space Program. We spent million to create an anti gravity writing pen.
The Russians used a pencil.

Come on Billy - the masking tape is not pretty!!!!
You have an image to uphold.
