was testing out a new 9mm mag well adapter (KAK) and had this happen about 10 shots in.

The bolt is a Kaw Valley that I've only since March. 4 matches, so maybe 1000 rounds. Called KAW Valley and they have a replacement on the way.

This is the 2nd bolt key I've had shear off like this. First was a PSA. XP carbine spring, 5.4oz buffer, 115 and 124g loads. Standard pressure.
 
What does the bolt key do on an AR9 besides keep the bolt at 12 o'clock and give the charging handle something to grab? Doesn't seem like it would be highly stressed.

That's all it does.

I'm wondering why I've had 2 of them shear myself.
 
I just had the same thing happen to my YHM 9mm BCG. I loved my AR9 but I'll never trust it now so I turned it into a 300blk

But 9mm is so CHEAP to shoot, I'm gonna keep it. That and I already have a 300'SBR.
 
My 9mm bolt is a CMMG with a pretty high round count. It's been 100%.
Ive had it since before you could buy a "glock cut" 9mm bolt (Pendergraft cut mine.)

I think the fasteners they used are junk.
 
So OP, you have yours setup as blow back, obviously? I see Faxon and New Frontier offer the designated BCGs.

I'll post a review after I can put some rounds through it. I only got a handful off before breaking the bolt key.

My impression just from install and hand cycling is that it's a solid piece of gear.

I just looked at the KAK site, is that for a Colt or UZI mag (That is what KAK says)?
