Dual sights on your AR?

What’s the intended purpose for the rifle?

Very true. Which is why my fold down iron sights stay put, and whatever optic I put on can be removed without tools quickly.
Have you weighed the rifle with the current sights?

I’d want to keep mine simple, and light.

Yeah, as is, it's exactly 9lbs. Considering removing the flashlight. I'm not sure it makes much sense. Seems to me as soon as I turn it on, I'm a big bright target.

Don't do that. Kind of hard to identify if something is a threat or not if you can’t see it. Three must haves on a self defense/fighting rifle; sling, light and optic. Personally I would sacrifice and optic before giving up a light.

Guess I just have to make a decision and fire very quickly after turning my light on.

Yup, you should invest in some formal training with a carbine, but the cliff notes is: cut the light on, search/shoot, cut it off, move.

You should be able to lighten that rifle. My heavy one is 8lbs, and my light one is 6lbs. Both have 16” barrels and optics, but no lights on them, but the lights I have that would use only add 4oz.

Jeezless. My woods wandering ar was just over 7 with a lpvo.

I dropped it for a red dot. Standard 16" w/ magpul handguard and a2 sight. With a flip up rear. Just over 6 now.

But after several miles of hiking I still wish it was lighter.

I think my "stationary" rifle isn't much more than 9lbs lol.

Three sight systems is to much imo. A lpvo can be left on low for "now" situations. It takes just a second to dial up some zoom if something is farther away, precluding the "right now" situation.

If you need magnification for a "now" situation something has gone terribly wrong. Run.

Just my low speed, high drag 2 cents. Worth what you paid:)

On my rifles with reflex sights I run fixed irons. Look through irons and front post IS the dot. Dot dies for some reason the irons are still there.

On my rifles with LPVOs I have RMRs or other mini reflex sights on 45s. One has fixed 45 degree irons with a tritium front post.

On my two ACOG equipped guns one has an RMR on top, the other has an RMR on a 45.

Dual sights? My ARs have both kinds of sights, front and rear.

Just my opinion:
Just use what you have and get training with the extra money.
Leave your scope on 1x all the time, unless you need 6x.

Edit: double tap

good advice :)

What is your host, OP?

My little go-to rifle is a 10.5” with a 1.5x ACOG w/ACSS reticle. I can run steel from 100-500yds (IPSC targets), first round hits With it.

It’s small and light, but very clear and the reticle makes hits incredibly easy. It’s low enough Mag that I can use it in place of a red dot but still make “longer” shots. A 2x or 3x ACOG might be worth looking at if you need a little bit more magnification though

With the light and suppressor it’s hovering around 8lbs even
