I was in Nichols guns in Rock hill a few months ago and bought a Ruger AR-15 receiver for a pistol project and just because I like to make Bill Ruger roll over in his grave. When I was filling out the 4473 the clerk made a point of telling me that even though it said multi on the lower whatever he put on the form as far as caliber it had to remain because that is what the ATF field agent told him and that I would have to engrave the caliber I make it on the receiver. I made a point of telling him that ATF field agents are usually sociology majors who couldnt get a job after college besides working for the government and don't know gun laws worth a squat until you get into the upper levels and that the agent had probably confused or mixed together some NFA rags with title one regs and just spit some fake knowledge out. He got mad and went away.

Ok, one of my favorite gun show stories, it was at a booth of a gun shop so I think it counts.
Dude was pushing diamondback pistols, had one that was identical to the LCP.
He was trash talking the LCP and how this was better, so I poked in and asked, "What makes it better?"
Genuine question.
He said, "Well the Ruger is a plastic gun, it'll fail"
"Ok, what's the DB made from, it looks the same"
"Well it's a polycarbonate"
So I replied, "Ok, isnt that plastic?"
"No, it's polycarbonate, the LCP is plastic"
"What's the difference?" I asked
"You dont understand, the LCP is plastic, this gun isnt, it's polycarbonate"

I smiled, chuckled, walked away

This is a great thread topic. I know I have SO many good ones but have to rack my brain. Been about 8 years since I been in the bottom sludge layer LGSs. My LGS for past 8 years has been the same fantastic resource.

that being said, I’m currently an orphan without an LGS in N.C. as of yet so my stories will be from Canada.

"The Glock 43X will be a collector's item within a year because Glock is only going to make a limited number."

Tied with:

"If you want to buy FMJ to use as a self-defense load, I won't sell it to you. Understand that I'm doing that for your own protection."

(@BatteryOaksBilly should love this one!)

Better buy it while you can, they are gonna ban them next month...
Remember seeing a booth at the GSO gun show FULL of ammo cans and some sort of 'news article' about Obama stopping the sale of ammo cans to civilians. It was all "Get them before the new Obama law goes in place next month!"

Stupid

I've had folks ask me if I can make a holster for a Ruger or a .357. OK, which one. They don't know.

Had a guy get made at me one time because I could not tell him if my holster would fit his 1911 all the while he was refusing to tell me which 1911 he actually had. Odds are about 95% it would work, but I was trying to make sure he didn't have one of the odd balls. Since, "I was too stupid to tell if my holster would fit his gun he was buying somewhere else." Good, go bother someone else.

From employees or customers?

Customers:

1) Why do you need that? (referencing the Stoner-designed rifle I was buying).

2) That rifle is a piece of sh*t...good luck getting it to work right. (same dude in #1)

3) I don’t think people oughta be able to have those. (yeah...once again...same dude).

Was good and pissed right about then, so I asked him why. He said, “That’s too much firepower; ain’t anybody got any need for that kind of gun.” I told him if the AR is as big a POS as he claims and the rifle will not work right, then it shouldn’t be an issue. He gave me a dumb look (IMO, probably normal for him), got mad and stormed off.

People need to mind their own f’in business.

Employee:

Hands me a Model 10 Smith. I open the cylinder, look and close it. He gets torqued and asked why I checked it after he had already done it before he handed it to me. “To make sure it is not loaded.”

My rule: It is not unloaded until I visually confirm it is not loaded. No offense to anyone, but for me, the “I just checked it” dog don’t hunt.

6+ months ago, as I walked into a Fuquay gun store and observed a clerk hand an old timer (I’m in my mid 50’s) a 1911. The old guy walked elsewhere twirling on his booger hooker. I asked the clerk if they would intervene, “It’s OK, he’s a regular”. I promptly exited.

I had a retired, retarded police chief who worked part time in a LGS, that told me I could not have more than 3,000 rounds of ammo legally. o_O

LOL.....3000?

That’s just a good start.

BS on multiple levels. polycarbonate does not react well to hydrocarbons. The gun would literally stress crack and fall apart after seeing most solvents.

Yeah I remember cleaning some polycarbonate damper bowls on a scale set years ago at a job I had during college. Brake cleaner seemed like a good idea. They literallu crumbled in my hands.

I don’t have many, but I sure love the extreme bubba Mosins/Enfields/Mausers that are worth a ton because of all the “custom” work done on them...

And yeah...3,000 rounds could probably be found under some of y’all a couch cushions...

I had already dated my P228 to ~2000, but LGS employee swears that Sig quit making the P228 in the mid-90s. I must have a rare one!

And that's just one instance from this dumbass employee. I refuse to deal with him. If he's the only one available, I'll wait til someone else is freed up.

I don't think that was dumb. To which i'll add, all this will be gone if bloomturd is elected president (including this forum).

Thankfully the Presidency is not a dictatorship and Congress still needs to get involved in making laws. That won't stop the store shelves from getting emptied of guns, parts and ammo like the last time around.

Me: Got any 32 acp ammo?
Him: For a semi-auto?
Me: No, I'll shoot it in my revolver.
Him: It won't work in a revolver.
Me: It will work in mine.
Him, and two other customers at the counter: <glare> <all conversation stopped>
...not another word was spoken while I was in the store. Bought the box of ammo and left.
