Dumbest thing youve heard in a gun shop

Gun shop owner explained the wait for the phone approvals yesterday to someone wanting a Ruger 10/22. Prospective buyer wanted to know how to "get around" the approval. Shop owner was "You can fill out paperwork, pay me and we can wait to see if it gets approved before I close up, or you can do paperwork, pay me and pick it up sometime tomorrow, maybe. Guy left, must have drunk the "internet purchase koolade".

An Ode to the Straw Purchases

“Hey there, my man,
I’m looking for a nine.
Lemme see that Glock,
No, the Ruger looks fine.”

He handles the pistol
With a smile on his face.
He waves his girl over,
And she takes her place.

“What do you think, girl?”
She shrugs without a care.
He places the pistol down
While she blankly stares.

Out from the pocket comes
Cash, folded, still warm.
“Mister, we’ll take the Ruger,
Please bring her the form.”

“Who here is purchasing?”
“She’s buying it,” he’ll say.
And out the door they go.
No guns for them today.

Out the door he’ll stomp.
“I’m a victim,” he’ll cry.
But the salesman knows better.
NICS would certainly deny.

The slide wasnt locking back on my wife's 365 XL with one of the mags empty, someonen told me to send it to sig to get fixed, I told them they were in-f'ing-sane and I'm just going check it with the other magazine and get a new one and there's no way in hell I'm sending it to sig. Turns out it's just the mag like I said. Dumbass people are so fast to send a gun off rather than try to fix it themselves.

Today an older idiot bought an AR with no range type ammo for sighting in or functionality check ... the shop had the high dollar match and HD/SD type stuff which he bought 1 box of Hornady Critical Defense (20 box). The owner tried to explain to the guy he needed to sight it in and make sure everything was right and he hoped to have some range ammo coming in tomorrow or Saturday and he’d put back a couple boxes for him since he had bought the AR. The guy said that one box was all he needed since he was just going to have it just in case down at the coast which is where he was heading tomorrow. The guy bought a new AR (a Del-Ton so it was at least decent beginner one but Murphy still pops up) but no ammo to test it or sight it in ... much less practice ... and then just 20 rounds “just in case”.

I'm hoping he had a magazine? Lol

One 30 rounder that came the carbine ... and it was the Scout model so it also at least did have the A2 front sight and Magpul BUIS rear but he didn’t buy a bag, CLP (and was told twice AR’s do need proper lubrication) or anything. I’m not to sure the guy even knows how to operate it.

Just checking, seems like he has no idea what else is going on lol!

Hahahaha! That made me laugh, I currently have my P99 at Walther getting fixed, I'm waiting for them to tell me that exact thing.
What's all this about a p99 needing fixing?

But yeah, i was at a sporting good store after the clean-out and some guy was scouring around everything for any 45acp. i said that there was one 50rd (fmj) box in front of me he could take (I already have a bunch and i don't usually shoot .45) and he gladly snatched it up and took off, mumbling something about how the only ammo he saw on the shelf cost a whole lot more than he thought it would. I looked where he was looking - he had been looking at defensive ammo and didn't seem to know the difference.

Literally just left the gun store, never thought I'd see the type of people in there that I saw, and complete with straw purchase happening right next to me

ETA the straw purchase people had 0 knowledge on how to operate a handgun yet she was buying 2

I've done stuff like that, but mainly because it's not my first and I already have a bunch at home.

These are the people likely to be a problem. No idea what they're getting into and no responsibility.

Hope he's not coming to THIS part of the coast... we have enough idiots already...

My last one was approved last June have not purchased any more MG’s since then(took 8 months for the approval on that MP5SD). Had a near death experience a few months back so when I was ok bought a 2019 Z06 Vette and the wife said no more MG’s (Man I love that woman!). Anyway I’m happy to let anyone a test drive my MG’s but not the Vette :) The HK21 is the most fun but really brutal.
You are wise. If I did not have my 2016 Z51, I would have bought a 2019 C7. GM priced them like they world was coming to an end. I talked to the GM of a large Chevy store and a major player in the heirarchy of a LARGE multi state ownership. Both said that most of the stores (dealerships in their vernacular) lost money on the last 6 months of C7’s to get “inventory” points. More points....more of the C8’s. The GM came tooling up in a $90K C8 so we could get a good look without the hovering salesman. We had an RV complex or compound at the ACCT in Greensboro. Cool car...

Not for me. My C7 Coupe holds all my toys. I can drive to the beach for a week long timeshare and not be luggage challenged. I had a pet C5 and it finally got traded.

if you have not done the Ron Fellows Driving school gig and you still have your coupon...DO IT. That is a hoot and I have done the Be Petty thingie at the CMT many times. You will get the ride of your life when your instructors take you out to show you HOW you should have done it. The folks that had the Z06 said that it was the ride of a lifetime. We clocked the Z51 times and they shaved several seconds off when they did the Z06 runs. The on board videos showed the RPM and G forces and maybe the speeds. That additional 200 HP does make it more thrilling. I don’t know how I would handle your monster....mine is enough to tame and to fear...

"We're closing indefinitely at 1700 today."

(Dumb on a totally different cosmic level, especially when heard in a gun shop.)

I was in Sportsman's Warehouse yesterday and I noticed a couple that was browsing at the gun cases. The man would look at each gun for a moment and then proceed to tell the wife/girlfriend what it was as if she either couldn't read to tag herself or he already knew what it was even though I just watched him read the tag himself. For some odd reason now I'm interested. A salesman walks up and asks them if they want to see anything and the guy asks "What's that?" while pointing to a bolt action. 50 caliber Barrett. The employee tells him what it is and the guys asks "Is it single action or double?" The employee says "It's a bolt action." The guy looks at the girl, nods and says "That's double action." Me and the guy working exchanged looks and walked away.

Working the bolt with your right hand is the first action, and pulling the trigger with your trigger finger is the second action...

Yep, Double Action! Haha

Opening the mouth is the first action, letting everyone know they're an idjit by talking is the second.

Wait a minute...that means my single action revolver is really a double action? o_O

Cock hammer, squeeze trigger. Double action!

Anyone want to start a class action suit for false advertising? Heritage says it's a single action!

And Double Action is really Single Action because you only move your finger!

Not in a gun shop, but my neighbor. He called me last weekend and asked if I could put together a stripped lower. He had bought a complete PSA MOE Freedom upper, and a stripped lower with the name SWAT on it, with a Anderson lpk. So I told him to bring it over, and give me just a bit and I'd have it put together. After the build, he came over to pick it up, and I asked him if he knew how to run it, all the controls, etc. Nope, nothing. I then asked about mags and ammo. Nope, nothing. Said he'd buy a couple "clips" and a couple boxes of ammo soon. I jokingly told him that he bought the wrong style of rifle if he was gonna buy "clips", lol. I told him to find what he could, and to set a Sunday aside to go to PHA with me so I could show him how to use his new blaster.

From a guy running a table at a gun show last year. GBT( guy behind table)
Customer: Hey man, I'm looking for a Glock 19
GBT: I would suggest a Glock 23 in 40
Customer: Why a 40 over 9mm
GBT: 9mm hollow points just goes in a bad guy straight through, because the hole is so small in the end, you can only hope it hits something vital.
40 hollow points goes in and expands, and then tumbles, doing traumatic damage to bad guy.
So I asked where in the hell he got his information on that load.
He says his buddy in Texas was a Texas Ranger, and had told him many stories of said info.
I just shook my head and walked away. The customer said something to him and walked away, and caught up to me and asked me what I carried. I told him a G-19, and that he would be fine with a 9mm and good quality ammo, and train properly how to use it. He thanked me, and walked off.
And just think, someone out there I'm sure believed that load of crap and followed his recommendation on "fowty".

Probably not. He most likely smelled a new buyer that didn't know much and figured he could get rid of one of his low-demand 23 models. People will line up to buy a glock 19, but you're gonna have a 23 sitting on your shelf for a while.
In a related story, I bought a compact .40 for my first pistol...

This wasn’t in a gun shop, but a guy I know who served in Vietnam told me that the enemy could fire there M16 rounds, but we could not shoot the AK 47 rounds.:)

I thought it was we could shoot 9mm in our .45acp in WW2... Forget science and history that both rounds were used in WW1 and bow to the knowledgeable gun shop guy:D:D:D
