Does anyone know anything about the DynaTrap? I was thinking about picking one up for my back yard to kill some mosquitoes. Is it effective?

I have one. It's fairly expensive and not a set it and forget it type device.

The instructions say you need to eliminate all breeding opportunities for this thing to effectively end the cycle.

I've done just about no elimination, but I do see a difference in the amount of mosquitoes. Unfortunately, they are worse now than they have been in weeks, but still noticeably less than in summers before.

I don't necessarily recommend it, unless you're going to put in the work to help it do its job.

Just emptied mine today. Lots of moths and beetles. Not 100% sure it’s that effective on mosquitoes.

As part of the the solution it does help but like KC said above it, along with some other doings, takes a few weeks to knockdown the mosquito population. Supposedly mosquitoes don’t Range more than 50-75 yards from where they are hatched so a big thing is try to eliminate their breeding areas ... damp areas and standing water especially ... near you. A surprisingly big chunk is knocked down by maintaining gutters and drainage from said gutters ... keep “em clear and flowing to minimize standing water in them. Toss any thing that holds water from buckets to tires to old kid toys. I did spray with a spray called Mosquito Magician my wife bought ... I swear it’s probably 90% garlic and citronella ... but it did work as good as the old fogger stuff we use to use and didn’t hurt stuff we didn’t want to hurt ... animals and the neighbor’s bees.

The Dynatrap does catch a bunch and we set it up on the leeward side of the house at the corner closest to our patio and backdoor to try a pull them away from the area we (and the animals) tend to hang around in. It’s not a “zapper” it’s a trapper so it doesn’t pose a shock threat or such from children or pets.

It might be a little late to really see it make a difference this season so I’d watch and see if anyone puts them on sale and start next mosquito season.

It says that mosquitos can breed in 45° temps. So, the earlier you get one out, the better.
