2 quakes near Sparta since midnight...2.6 and 5.1

Ah, was around thru several in AK 6+'s and thought no way this was 2.6 when I saw that first post, was thinking 4ish, I see my calibration in off a bit, but then I had no idea where the center was.

I was in the bed reading and thought this could get more violent so I got dressed for possible death. My guess is the magnitude depends on your location. I could see it being a 5.0 here in Hickory.

Very noticable here in Rutherford Co. Shook the house, wife looked at me and said "what was that?"

Felt it here in Durham too, but our dog didn't get excited at all. The last thing I need is more cracks in the plaster and the bricks.

I was in the kitchen cooking bacon and didn't feel a thing. Wife was in the living room and jumped up off the couch thinking a critter was under the cushions from the vibrations!

AT EIGHT AM ON A SUNDAY?!?! lol

Wild that this happened, so rare here

Last one was about 8 years ago that was felt in this area

Unfortunately with one year old twins and a four year old I have to whenever I get a chance. And I’m not mowing in 90 degree heat. So I usually try and get up with the sun and start.

Yeah the only other one I have ever felt was on a mission trip in Guatemala. They happen there all the time.

The one just before 2 am woke us up. The one this morning was an eye opener. It happened about 18 miles from our house. I sounded almost like a really strong gust of wind at first because of the noise. The shaking was strong for about 8-10 seconds.

Our house shook at 8:07 and it woke all of us up.

My brother in Galax said it shook the whole house.

You're 5 miles away from me and I didn't feel a thing.........

.

My door from the den to basement is super tight now. I should probably check for sheetrock cracks and all doors to see if they will open and shut properly.

Quake woke up the wife and baby, but im a champ, slept right through. Wife said whole house shook.

Quake shook us at 0810 while a train was blowing the whistle, going through Jamestown. Shook the house, then it sounded like raccoons running across the roof, prolly sticks rainin' down from the trees.

I believe this is the largest quake in NC since 1916.
The one that damaged the Washington Monument was pretty powerful. I didn’t feel it in downtown Charlotte, but I heard it. Perhaps that ones epicenter wasn’t “in” NC so it doesn’t qualify as a NC quake.

Kind of interesting how people feel it differently. The Virginia one I literally watched my walls move and then snap back. This one felt more like an explosion went off down the street.
If you were only 18 miles from the epicenter, it was.

Haven't seen any reports as to depth yet.

Last one I remember was in the early '70's I think. I thought a very large truck had rolled by the house, until my buddy on the phone asked if I felt that.

I've been saying for a while now that there seems to be a noticeable increase in seismic activity lately.

Hmmm ... Trump signed the EO to use FEMA funds to supplement Unemployment Insurance and the next day we have an east coast earthquake. While no major damage has been reported but with 2020 you gotta wonder when is the 8.0 gonna hit Commiefornia or 3 major hurricanes hit hard and they’ll be screaming for FEMA to step in and send cash ... and they’ll scream Trump gave away FEMA funds “they” need now without thinking the Dim House of Reps (namely Pelosi) would not work with the Senate (and Schumer didn’t help there either). Damn, I hope this is not an omen.

LOL, I was on the shitter when it hit. We have a concrete house and the wall behind toilet is outside wall. I thought the rock quarry near us had a blasting accident.
Suurree, the quarry....lol

I didn't feel anything. I'm in town close to the hospital...... I have family that stays out on Howell Rd that said the pictures rattled on the wall in the hallway.

Yeah I believe that is the case. I was in Fredericksburg, VA for that one. It was 5.8
