This is a photo from a house in the Sparta area. Evidently there is some damage.

Hmmm ... Trump signed the EO to use FEMA funds to supplement Unemployment Insurance and the next day we have an east coast earthquake. While no major damage has been reported but with 2020 you gotta wonder when is the 8.0 gonna hit Commiefornia or 3 major hurricanes hit hard and they’ll be screaming for FEMA to step in and send cash ... and they’ll scream Trump gave away FEMA funds “they” need now without thinking the Dim House of Reps (namely Pelosi) would not work with the Senate (and Schumer didn’t help there either). Damn, I hope this is not an omen.
I put them in the basement knee high stocking thread.got pics?
There is also an ancient fault line that runs up the east coast that run thru the NW corner of SC, enters NC just west of Charlotte and pretty much heads NE splitting the state. It then runs all the way thru NYC. If the New Madrid popped you gotta wonder how the East Coast Fault would react? It’s 2020 ... so we may find out.I am concerned about the New Madrid fault popping loose. Not a matter of if but when and we will definitely feel it big.
IIRC there was a major one in the Charleston area way back in the 1800's?.
Heard this on the Green Mountain ham Repeater.
Some damage on hwy 21 in Sparta. Road is buckled near hwy 21. Some homes have chimneys that have fallen, broken dishes , all kinds of things fell in some homes. One gentleman spoke of a tire/repair shop damaged. Some homes have damaged brick .
First, I felt the Earth move under my feet. Then I felt the sky tumbling down, tumbling down. In all seriousness mostly just some rumbling and rattling glasses.
I feel a Carole King mojo coming on:
That post has a certain echo to it
That's were one of the hams that talk on the repeater works too.a buddy that lives in Sparta says the tire warehouse he works at was destroyed.
Woke me up in Davidson County
House creaking etc
That's were one of the hams that talk on the repeater works too.
The one just before 2 am woke us up. The one this morning was an eye opener. It happened about 18 miles from our house. I sounded almost like a really strong gust of wind at first because of the noise. The shaking was strong for about 8-10 seconds.
If you were only 18 miles from the epicenter, it was.
Haven't seen any reports as to depth yet.
Last one I remember was in the early '70's I think. I thought a very large truck had rolled by the house, until my buddy on the phone asked if I felt that.
I've been saying for a while now that there seems to be a noticeable increase in seismic activity lately.
One of the big ones in Seattle was like this one to me. More of a rolling feel. Or swaying. The bigger one I was in out there was more of a sharp jarring. I’ve got no clue what the difference is or was, but different quakes seem to have different effects on the earth.
Brevard fault zone. http://southernappalachianvitalityindex.org/geology/rock-types paragraph 3. I took a lot of geology courses at Clemson as electives alongside my EE courses, and I spent a bit of time in the field along that fault. Everyone always thinks the Appalachians are done moving and shaking, but nothing on the earth is ever really done...There is also an ancient fault line that runs up the east coast that run thru the NW corner of SC, enters NC just west of Charlotte and pretty much heads NE splitting the state.
