Since my surgery I've grown a decent beard. But radiation is going to burn off part of it, so they suggested shave. I want to get an electric razor, but like everything else there are a million of them.

Who uses one, and what suggestions do you have?

In for further info, have never found an electric that works for me but always wanted one that would.

For me, I've mainly used Norelco. Tried a Braun, it just didn't work for me. Last Norelco I purchased was at Sam's, on sale for less than $100. Mileage may vary, but typically several years. Change the heads every year or so. Electric razor will be much quicker, though nothing will be as close as a blade.

Don’t buy a foil one, too easily damaged and nicks beards. IMHO norelco easy to clean and replace heads. Also the pop up trimmer is nice. I have one going on 7 years old. Good luck on your treatment! PS the Electra shave lotion helps cutting.

I am a “daily” shaver (sometimes going a day without a shave but very rarely more). I have tried everything from the self-cleaning Brauns to the “wet shave” Norelcos.

None of them are very good. The shave is not close, they always manage to tug beard hairs, and razor burn and ingrown hairs are inevitable.

It’s basically a dozen-bladed razor moving at high speed over your skin. It’s the exact opposite theory and execution of a proper straight or safety razor shave.

If you have to shave, there’s no substitute for a good wet shave. A warm lather from a proper shave soap really helps soften beard hair and lubricate skin.

@Chuckman
Here is the thread I stated with a bunch of suggestions from when I was asking about an E Shaver for my G-son.

I've been an electric razor user for 15 years now - starting right after boot camp. i dont daily shave anymore, but i swear by my braun. its the self cleaning model.

My experience also. I have a rechargeable Norelco that I've have for about 10 years. Replaced the heads at the 5 year mark, probably should've done it sooner but waiting until I had a small hole in one of them. The Braun was terrible.

Anyone remember the wind-up travel razors? I had a buddy with one when I was in the Army, he'd use it in the field. It actually worked pretty well!

Good luck on the treatment Chuckman!

I've been using a Phillips/Norelco triple header for a couple of years. The shave is acceptable but nowhere close to a real razor.

Had a Braun for years and it was very good. It was also expensive. Usually change the foil/cutting mechanism every year or so. Bought a Panasonic last year and it is good. Tried it since it was quite a bit cheaper at the time.

Your face will hate you until it toughens up some. I used electric razor for several years and fell back to using blades. The other day grabbed the electric razor and it chewed up my face because it had been so long since I had used one. Your mileage may vary.

Been a long time Norelco user here daily after trying others. Have had a couple diffrent ones over the years some more expensive and even cheap walmart triple head one from Norelco and all worked pretty well and similar long as blades were sharp but current one is the 3000 series model and works well. Never been a fan of any of the other brand or ones that used lotion.

True. Electric takes a few days to adjust to and really only gives you about a 1 day grace period or so before it can pull hairs. You become pretty much and everyday shaver. You kind of need to condition your skin. I usually shower and soften the whiskers up and then shave with my Panasonic. Works fine within a day or 3 of the last shave.

I use a cheap Norelco 3-head knock-off called Sweet LF. It works about as well as the cheapest Norelco does. I also use it to shave my head, so I replace bladed every year.

Because my surgery cut a couple cranial nerves I have no feeling on my right cheek and my right lips. I can't use a blade (like I used to) because with no feeling I might slice up my face. I usually shave 2, 3 times a week, and gone are the days I'm looking for baby-bottom smooth.

I use a Phillips One Blade Pro. Shaves like a regular razor.

I’ve used several 3 and 4 head electrics to shave my head with and bought a Pitbull Shaver by Skull shaver a couple years ago. Best thing I’ve used on my head besides an actual razor. I plugged it to the wrong charger one day by accident and fried it. Been using a cheap POS for the last few months. Diana got me this one as a gift for our anniversary a couple weeks ago and I forgot how nice they are. Doesn’t give quite the feel of a razor shaved head, but it’s damn close and looks like it’s been razor shaved.

I'm using a Braun that's like 15-20 years old. Works great. I tried to get a new one and it was hot garbage so I went back to my old one.
My wife uses a men's Panasonic for her legs. She's pretty happy with it.
