Your IP was on the banned list. It isn't anymore. Most IPs are dynamic. Likely yours had made it on the naughty list due to someone else's shenanigans....

Which makes it easy for anyone with an ounce of IT sense to change it. While it may be gratifying, in the long run it’s not an effective tool, for reasons like @Glen T experienced.

If you run a server, such as this, you will get what are called script kiddies and other “shenanigans” as you put it. There is a tool called Fail2Ban that will temporarily block an IP address with your firewall and then automatically release it after a period of time. This avoids the problem of whacking the next poor schmuck who gets the IP address while encouraging the bad actor to go elsewhere.
