EXTAR AR pistol

Cool concept but how does it cycle without a buffer assembly?

If the answer is “proprietary” BCG, then I know right away that it’s not for me. It may be a neat platform but I want consistency across my ARs.

Buy one and let us know. It’s pretty cheap.

I believe it uses an adjustable gas system, lightweight BCG, with recoil spring running at top of receiver over barrel.

Makes sense. Similar to the AR-22 variants out there, I assume.

I think most of the AR22 and conversions are all blowback operated. Like most AR9s (excepting the MPX, which is gas driven).

But the Extar is actually gas impingement like an AR. But the buffer and spring is just mounted above barrel/receiver, rather than behind it. If I am not mistaken.

In AR22's the BCG doesn't move backwards, just parts within the proprietary BCG move. The recoil springs are contained inside that .22 BCG.

Yeah that’s how I was picturing the BCG on the Extar but I see what you’re saying now about the spring and gas system being above. Neat concept and it would be a fun range toy.

I’m curious if it would cycle with heavy subsonics like a 77-80gr with pistol powder. I’ve loaded up some 77s with 3.8gr of Titegroup and they are really quiet through my bolt gun with suppressor.

I would be interesting to see one taken down so we could see the parts.

With adjustable gas it might!
Never see or tried subsonic 556. Sounds very interesting.

It’s pretty underwhelming actually.

Well first of all it'd have to be able to take a pistol brace. I can think of nothing more useless than a huge frikin pistol with no good way to support it, but I know not everyone thinks like me.

I also fail to see the desire for 5.56 out of a pistol length barrel. Make it in 300blk or a pistol caliber and can take a brace and you got me.

Totally agree on stock/brace!
