I have several guns and several pocket knives that take turns in my edc weapon rotation, depending on what I'm wearing each day. While I routinely switch between three or four handguns (G43, HK45C, CZ P07 Suppressor Ready, Ruger LCP2, NAA 22wmr), there is one pocket knife that has become my favorite.

For the last two years, I have carried it in my right front pocket almost every day, and it is huge... Every time I pull it out in front of someone, their mouth drops open and I jokingly call it my "pocket sword".

It's the Cold Steel Recon XL and I truly do love everything about it. I love it so much that I want more knives just like it. The bigger the better...

Do you guys know of any other extra large folding pocket knives similar to the Recon XL? I prefer the look and functionality of a tanto point, but I'm open to other point shapes as well.

Spyderco military or manix xl.
Thanks for this. I had not heard of these two yet. I just looked them up online and they both have 4 inch long blades. The Recon XL blade is 5.5 inches. If i could, i would go even bigger. I'd love to find a folding tanto with 6 or 7 inch blade...

The spyderco tatanka is 5”. There are not many folders bigger than a 5” blade.

Benchmade Adamas

On my second deployment to Iraq, I had a friend who carried a Ontario Knife SP8 on his plate carrier. It was an amazing tool because it could cut, chop, penetrate, and most importantly it was thick enough to use as a pry bar. It was a knife, a machete, a saw, and a Mini Halligan all in one, and I have always wanted one. Yesterday I finally bought one and attached it to my civilian plate carrier....

I wish this thing could fold in half. If it would do that I'd carry it everywhere.

Ok, this conversation has peaked my interest. Here you go.....a pocket kukri

Meet the cold steel Rajah. That's a spyderco military below it.

A kid that used to work with us carried one of those.........it looks cool but wayyyyyy too big for practical use.

Biggest pocket knife I actually carry and use is a CRKT M21-14SFG with weird veff serrations (I prefer plain but the price was right). As I recall it was also available tanto style.

And tanto style

Snaps open double quick, but I really do need to get round to disabling the automatic safety catch for the liner lock.

Knife itself is a beast, that I have used roughly including at the junkyard to hack my way into gloveboxes and it's never let me down. I did rough up a couple of the serrations but a little work with a ceramic stick and they still cut fine even if they look a little off.

Maybe @DCGallim can chime in on this
I know his knife is big (to a normal human, normal to a Dan sized man), but dont recall what it was, thinking it was a Benchmade

Me and @wsfiredude both carry Benchmade Adamas folders. They aren’t as big as some of these mentioned above but a good size for my banana hands.

I carry an Adamas as well. It's a hard use knife and the blade is D2 tool steel. By the way, the blade is 3.82" not 5. This vid will convince you. Just for kicks, I opened a can of something with it too.

Here's my other favorite, but I don't carry anymore, because it's become a collector.
Benchmade Rukus 4.3" of S30V

Here's another pic for scale, the bigger one. ;)

How would you carry this? I can’t imagine it actually fitting in your pockets?

You'd be amazed what you can fit in big guy jeans pockets. I used to carry a Glock 19 in each pocket at the gun store with little printing to demonstrate that small 9mms like the P938 are not "too big for pocket carry".

I wear Duluth Trading Co. Firehose Pants, with a 9mm HK P7 in the left front pocket, and a Benchmade Adamas clipped to the right cargo pocket.
I just saw a commercial for these pants on TV this evening. I'm going to go somewhere and try on a pair. Where's the best place to buy these Duluth pants?

I bought mine at the Duluth Trading Co. store in Greensboro... they have an excellent online catalog, but in the store you can try 'em on and see what slight differences there are between the 4 or 5 types of Firehose Pants. There's another store in Cary.

They opened a store at Crossroads in Cary before Christmas. I checked it out, lots of transplants and soccer moms (it is Cary), but they had a pretty good selection of stuff.
