I am considering an F marked heavy .223 wylde barrel I already own for my build that will include an A1 upper designed for non-F-marked front sights. I was thinking I could either just adjust the front sight post down, or get an A2/A1 front sight post and throw it on the f marked FSB, then file the top of the sight post down as needed to align with the A1 carry handle rear sight.

Thoughts? Is there something I'm overlooking that would interfere with either plan?

Thanks!

I've done the first with the intention of doing the second if it didn't work, but with a hundred yard zero, I wasn't even close to bottoming out. This was with a 11.5" pistol.

I would assemble and then zero. This will tell you what you need to do for the range you want to zero at. A F marked FSB should already have a A2 front sight.
A1 has round sight post with 5 detents, .625" tall
A2 has square sight post with 4 detents, .750" tall
F marked sight base is .040" taller for a flat top

Hey guys, thanks for your input. I have put it together and used a bore sighter to do a preliminary pre-range zero. I anticipate it will work for now, but down the road I will probably get a new barrel and non-F marked front sight for the build anyway.
