Hey y'all! Question for you! Do you have any recommendations for a gunsmith who specializes in or particularly enjoys working on FAL rifles around Orange County, NC? Specifically the metric Austrian STG-58 model of FAL. I have a few things I want to have checked on mine. First I want to change out the Imbel brake on it for a proper Stoll brake I purchased. The Imbel brake is stuck on there hard, and I spooked myself when I tried to take the thing off, and worried that I'd bent the barrel. I don't think I did, but if they can verify I didn't in fact bend the barrel while installing the brake, that'd be great too. So I'm not willing to do that myself at this time. I also want to investigate why the gas plug ring, the one you're supposed to be able to turn and it click as you turn to hold gas dispersal levels, is loose and won't click or hold any position but fully forward due to friction with the front sight post. I'd also like them to check to see whether or not the barrel is timed properly, as an online friend of mine that's more familiar with FALs seems convinced that that could be an issue.
The rifle shoots, loads and handles fantastically. Functionally it's great. But those are things I'd like to check or change, both to ensure it's at 100% and because the Stoll would be 100% authentic/correct for the STG58.
