Favorite Restaurants of CFF members--Post Here

We just got home from Oak Island a couple hours ago. Wish I could afford to live down there.

Cherrywood BBQ on Kiawah Island. Oh man! Excellent BBQ, ribs, pulled pork and award winning sauces.
Trying not to drool on myself just thinking about it.

Okay, I felt like I needed to make this a large font, so it isn't missed! This weekend I ate at "Casey's Buffet" for the first time in my life. (It's in Wilmington, NC on Oleander Drive) and all I can say is DAMN! If you like southern food, you **HAVE** to try this place!

Their daily buffet menu consists of: BBQ Pork • Fried Chicken • Baked Chicken • Chicken & Pastry • Catfish • Whiting • Clam Strips • Fat Back • Fries • Chitlins • Rutabagas • Green Beans • Mac-N-Cheese • Sweet Potato Casserole • Cabbage • Boiled Potatoes • Corn • Blackeyed Peas • Turnips • Collards • Baked Beans • Green Peas • Lima Beans • Rice • Mashed Potatoes & Gravy • Chicken Salad • Coleslaw • Potato Salad • Pan Fried Okra • Roll • Hushpuppies • Apple, Blueberry & Peach Cobbler • Cherry Cheese Cake • Banana Pudding • Ice Cream • Bread Pudding • Pig Feet

Seriously, if you are going anywhere near Wilmington, try it!

Oh yea, for southern comfort food its outstanding. Every time I eat there I'm useless for the next 2-3 hrs.

We went to The Eddy Pub in Saxapahaw Saturday night. I got mussels and the wife got a pork chop. It was really good.
Here's the aftermath of mine and her porkchop

The New Deli in Fayetteville. Located at the corner of Village Drive and Robeson Street.
Great Panini's, salads, everything really.
They also feature candied type apples - which are huge. And chocolate covered strawberries - which are also huge.
The place is owned by friends. They do a fantastic business - both dining in and catering.
You will not be disappointed.

The Flying Pig bbq joint between Shelby and Boiling Springs has some fine cooked over wood BBQ. And if you like Lexington style, Red Bridges in Shelby is fine eating but a hair on the pricey side.

Been awhile since I have been there, but My Fathers Pizza in Black Mountain, NC is excellent.
Nice patio to sit on when the weather is nice, too.

Anybody ever been to JB's Lazy Pig BBQ in Waxhaw?

If you happen to go past nc exit 93 on 77 there's a place called Surry diner. Friday and Saturday evening until 8pm (closing) they have a $10.99 prime rib with sweet potato and brown sugar or other sides, this just happens to be my favorite. Also comes with a fried roll and butter which is the best piece of bread I've ever put to my lips. They also have homemade coconut pie, another favorite I might add. It's less than 5 minutes from the house and we stop in every pay weekend and usually eat for under $30 tip and all.

Evidently the owner is a Mod on AR15. I've seen him mention it several times, but never been over there.

In addition to the BBQ, he makes ice cream with liquid nitrogen?

Yeah...we stopped in there with our son, DIL, and grandson for ice cream. Haven't had a chance to try the que yet, but we will.

I just drove an hour and a half to get pizza & wings at Christo's in Salisbury, NC and it was worth it... pure gluttony and I don't care... lol

Fish Bites on Carolina Beach Road in Wilmington. We ate there last year, and again this year. It's a small place in a strip shopping center behind an Exxon station. And if you like craft beer, that Exxon station (Candy's Exxon), believe it or not, has a great selection.

Ok here's a question for foodies around here...

I want a good Chinese place. The Americanized version, of course. Back in the day, I knew of several places that had really great Egg Foo Yung and an awesome Bo Bo Platter. They also served food family style.

Is there a good place like this still in existence in the Triangle? Anywhere near Raleigh, Durham, Chapel Hill, Cary, etc? I don't mind driving.

Here's what a Bo Bo Platter looks like. Got a cast iron stove with it so you can grill your own. Yeah, I know this isn't sophisticated taste but sometimes I just want it.

I enjoy a short boat cruise to The Provision Company in Holden's Beach. The one in Southport is also good.

The Fish House at Blue Water Point on Oak Island is wonderful. They still have stuffed flounder even though it is not on the menu.

Shirley's Diner in Leland just across the river from Wilmington has always had great food. I love their fried pork chops.

I ate at Casey's the other day and was impressed. Carolina BarBQ in Wilmington is a favorite place for mass quantities of good food.

B's BarBQ in Greenville is a religious experience

Back in the late 80s to mid 90s, anytime any of us were descending on Charlotte, the common refrain was "Meetcha at the Living Room". Our Living Room, next to Elizabeth Billiards, was more formally known as the Bayou Kitchen. Proprietors David & Winston Amman sold the place back in the aughts (or thereabouts), and the new owner ran it into the ground within about a month.

About the same time, the Ammans opened the Bayou Smokehouse in Banner Elk. Same great vittles. Same impeccable service. And you can get Dixie and Shiner beers. Still #1.

Top place outside the Old North State? Threadgills.

@Burt Gummer was just here. This place is, is, is, uh, what's better than awesome? It's a unique place, with a honor system, and wonderful food.

Nothing fancy about the place either. Everyone eats outside under ceiling fans overlooking the backwaters of southport. They take an order hold a ticket until you're done. The food and alcohol are on the honor system which works great for them. May I recommend a cheeseburger and a half puns of shrimp. Pretty tasty combo

My wife gets the grouper salad and luckily she can't eat it all and I get her leftovers.

I haven't read through all the posts so my apologies if these have been mentioned:

Dame's chicken and Waffles (Durham, Cary and Greensboro). I have only eaten at the one in Durham. My personal tip is to choose the gingerbread waffle.

Saltbox Seafood Joint (Durham)

Rocky's Hot Chicken Shack (Asheville)

Clawson's 1905 Restaurant (Beaufort, NC)

Angus Barn (Raleigh)

Let's see...I'll post some of my favorites based on my traveling experiences with the shipyard.

I visit Kings Bay, GA a bit. I discovered Brazilian steakhouses in Jacksonville, specifically Terra Gauche Brazilian Steakhouse.

http://www.terragauchasteakhouse.com/

If you've never been to a Brazilian steakhouse, then you're truly missing out.

Imagine going to your favorite, good steakhouse and being able to eat as much of each and every kind of meat they have on the menu, for as long as you can bear to sit there and eat.

A Brazilian steakhouse typically has two lunch/dinner prices. One just involves the gourmet salad bar/hot bar. The other is the "full rodizio experience". (Rodizio means all you can eat)

Here's how it works:

Obviously you give your drink orders. Then you proceed to the salad bar which is LOADED with all kinds of stuff, depending on the restaurant. Cheeses, sliced gourmet meats, veggies of all kinds prepared lots of different ways. And the hot bar with a variety of soups, stews, or whatnot.

When you get back to your table, beside every place setting there will be a red/green disc or other small object. When you're ready for meat, turn this over green side up.

LIKE MAGIC a waiter will appear next to you with a skewer of meat! He'll describe to you what it is and ask you if you'd like some and what temperature. He'll slice off however much you want and you use the tongs at your setting to place it on your plate.

When he leaves, if you don't turn the disc red side up, ANOTHER WAITER WILL APPEAR with ANOTHER skewer of meat!

When you've had enough (for now) flip the disc red side up. Want more later? Green side up again.

Take a gander at the pics of the 10 meats at Terra Gauche:

Texas de Brazil in Norfolk, VA has 16 meats on their menu.

Does anyone know if Brasa in Brier Creek is the same thing?

Does anyone know if Brasa in Brier Creek is the same thing?

Yes, it is. From their website...

Brazil is known for its tradition of handsome gauchos riding the vast pampas herding beef cattle. The churrascarias, or steakhouses, feature rodízio service—a unique style featuring roasted meats served by passadores (meat servers), who visit the table with skewers of various kinds of meat—beef, pork, filet mignon, lamb, chicken, sausage, and even pineapple.
