What do you prefer for a defensive edc gun? Ive never put fiber because i hear it can break but I know theyve gotten better. The range I go to has bad lighting and got me thinking, a nice bright fiber sight would look nice, so far ive only ever used trijicon hd which are paint. And tritium is irrelevant because you can get both sights with tritium.... what you prefer?

I've agonized over sights too. At the end of the day, it seems to me that sights are important on the range and of absolutely no consequence in most SD situations. Am I outta line?

I prefer fiber. Neither add anything once the light starts getting dim.

The paint when clean is a big ol' blob you can't ignore in daylight, the fiber is a more refined look here signal.

FO in a non tritium sight has to be largely exposed and fairly long or the performance sucks, that makes it "delicate". I've never broken one, did have one get loose @6k or so, shoulda changed it far sooner it'd gotten very dim. If you routinely bang your front sight on stuff or have a holster that has it hanging out FO might not be the choice for you.

Why does FO get dim? And I assume you can just replace the rod not the whole sight?

Scratches, pitting, and other wear on the surface diminish its ability to refocus light.

You can easily change the rod on most.

For defensive pistols I like the big orange dot with tritium center, and a big black rear notch.
