Hey guys. I know many of you are wondering how we are doing. I apologize for not posting in a while. I think about how I need to do it, but get caught up doing other things and never take the time to actually sit down and write it. Jerek has had 3 treatments so far in this maintenance stage. The first two months were chemo and a lumbar puncture. The treatment yesterday was just chemo. His counts were ok for the first couple of weeks, but as he took more and more chemo pills, they began to tank. When he went in for treatment in March, his counts were down and they had to stop the chemo pills to give his body time to recover. They once again scheduled weekly lab visits to keep an eye on his counts.
The following week his counts were back up and they restarted the chemo pills at a lower dosage. The week after that his counts were once again down and they had to stop the pills again. His counts have continued to be down the past couple of weeks so they have had to keep him off the pills. He feels fine and goes outside with the kids every day. Since his marrow usually take a while to recover, his doctor has him coming back in 2 weeks for a lab check. Once his counts have recovered, he will restart the chemo pills at an even lower dosage. It will continue to be a trial and error until they discover how much his body can handle. He will continue to have weekly/biweekly lab checks until his counts have stabilized while taking the chemo pills.
All in all, we have mostly settled into our new normal. We have definitely been enjoying the warmer weather. Colt turned 3 at the end of March and absolutely loves being outside. He enjoys going in the woods and thinks he is big enough to go off on his own. River is doing all she can to keep up with him. She loves swinging and books. They are both growing like weeds and doing well. Despite Jerek’s counts being down, things have been going well. I apologize for not posting very often. I honestly don’t pay any attention to social media so I probably won’t be posting very often. I will try to put something out there every month or so just because I know you all care and want to know how we are doing.
