I finally had to cave and buy a new pair of boots yesterday. 😞

My old & comfy .mil boots gave out while we were on vacation in Europe this summer and I had been wearing my OLD school La Sportiva Makalu boots for the time being. But being they’re 20+ years old and really heavy they were taking a toll on my feet

I’ve always been a fan of leather boots but my wife talked me into going to look at something a little more “modern”.

Despite my grumblings I think I’ve seen the light. Tried on a pair of Salomon’s last night at REI and was amazed at how comfortable and light synthetic boots could be. Thankfully there was a 25% off sale going on So I came home with a pair of Salomon quest 4

Now to get some miles in with them!

I wore Asolo's for 10 years and yeah, a guy at REI had me try on Solomon's. Night and day...and the cost is a lot easier on the wallet

I recently needed to buy some boots. I did the Amazon Try Before You Buy and ordered 5 pair to try. 4 pair went back and I kept the Dunham 8000 boots. They were far away the most comfortable of all. I have worn them a lot since and I'm very pleased with them.

hope you like them.
they will last a good while.

just trashed my old Salomons after our last Adopt-A-Highway pickup for the year.
wore the "nubs" off of them, so they were too slick to be safe.
maybe Santa brings a new pair.

Salomons make good boots and shoes. I also have a pair.

If you want a deal, check out REI's used gear section. Most of the items were tried on and did not fit right and returned.

Also REI Outlet for close-outs and 'last year's' deals.

My go-to is Oboz Bridger, but I have also had Scarpa, La Sportiva, and Lowa (hiking shoes). No issues with any of them.

Yes, REI has a sale going on until the 20th. Select brands were 25% off. I had a couple of gift cards lying around so I got out of there for under $120 for the Salomons

They did have a pair of Lowa Renegade returns in stock. 40% off. not eligible for returns, so I opted not

I really wanted a pair of Kenetrek boots but man are they pricey ($430)

My sister gave me a pair of Salomons for Christmas last year. Great boots. One of the few beside Keen's that fit my fat feet.

I went Solomon, I have 2 pairs of them, but ive got 4 pairs of Oboz and they are a great, light, comfortable and waterproof boot. I still have 4-5 pairs of US made Rocky military boots that I wear, and 3 pairs of Danners.

Few pairs of Solomons, few pairs of Merrells, been super impressed with both.

Only issue I find is that the treads wear out very quickly on concrete/asphalt/etc. So they don't make for good daily drivers.

My Viktos shoes/boots aren't as nice on a trail but do amazingly as daily wear.

Maybe I need to try Solomons. I’ve worn Keens for years with good luck. I get 1.5 - 2 years out of them. I wear them everyday in the construction industry. So I’m in sand, mud, wet constantly. Just bought another pair. I’ve tried other brands but they seem to always hurt my feet. I’m special that way I guess.

If you like the width and toe box of Keen, you may not like Solomon. Definitely try before you buy.

I wish I could wear Salomons-at my old agency the SWAT guys got them and every single one of them said they were the best field boot any of them had ever worn. I wasn't SWAT but then they bought all Firearms Instructors a pair, and I noticed the model they bought didn't come in wide. A couple of guys said they were wides, but just went up a size. I tried that and they were still too tight (I have FAT FEET + HIGH ARCHES + HIGH INSTEP). Even though they would have been free, I told them to save their money, as I knew they would have been unusable. I tried them again a few months back when I noticed some in wide sizes. STILL too tight, but for the brief time I had them on, I didn't feel anything approaching the perfect feel all my Salomon user friends talk of (?)

That is what I absolutely love with the Keens. I have narrowish feet and Keens fit perfect. I use to wear Merrells until I tried Keens. Now I don’t find the merrells comfortable. I’ll stay with what I know works.

That's funny, the keens I have have an ample toe box because my forefoot spreads a bit. If I had webbed feet it would look just like a diving fin. But definitely stick with what works, of whatever brand. If you have narrower feet, the Solomon might work fine. But definitely try before you buy.
