Finally got to hang a man yesterday

Looking good. Maybe I'll just cover my chains with firehose to please this crowd lol.

If this damn heat dont subside they're not gonna be tested until fall lol
I’m definitely going the firehose route...

hooked to my yard hydrant and shooting full blast on me while at the range. ;)

When you have a chance, could you post a photo of the complete assembly? Where’d ya find them there strange washers?
Here’s what I have. I used two of the wedges, so the first gives me an angle, then the second one allows the nut/washer to have a flat surface to tighten on.

And then when I hold the ends of the two cables so they’re hanging vertically, the plate hangs at roughly this angle:

I've had problems with using bolts. Someone inevitably shoots the bolt head (not me all my shots are dead center :rolleyes:) making it a real pain to get the damn thing out of the plate. For some reason, shooting the bolt head also warps the threaded part of the bolt too, bending it to where you can't take the nut off either. When the bolt needs changed, need the sawzall. ugh.
So I use S hooks. But...all steels hung closer than 100 feet are angled sideways at a minimum of 30 degrees. Splatter veers off to the side. Chains are also long, allowing more swing and less resistance. It works well.

@BigWaylon
That’s tremendous! :)
Now, I will say they may be a little more fragile than expected. I believe they’re just galvanized. If you hit the plate up near the bolt (more likely on the smaller 4”x6” pieces), sometimes one will shatter. I made all my targets a couple years ago and have really only taken them out 3-4 times so far. Another member and I cut 14 targets out of one 24”x48” piece of AR500.

That’s the method I came up with to hang them. Not sure I’d use the steel wire cable again, but I have plenty of extra still on the spool for now.

Here’s a couple shots of what I prepped to get it all ready.

@BigWaylon
Thanks for that. I don’t think those tapered washers being fragile would be a problem for me. I’d just aim for the bolt. o_O

I just found this in a google search:

https://www.repurposedmaterialsinc.com/fire-hose-without-couplings/fire-hose-1.5-x-95/

49.50 plus tax (free shipping) for 1.5" by 95 feet.
Ordered a 95ft roll. That should hang all my steel just fine and have some left over for replacements.

Got the shipping notice same day and today the brown truck dropped off a roll of firehose

Gonna order some grade 8 bolts and wedge washers and rebuild all my wood post-hung targets.
