I was out of NFA game since 41f and seems like my NFA disease starts again as approval time statistics get back to reasonable few months. :)

So, a short question - what are options of getting FD-258 form in Raleigh area except for CCBI and DIY?

Silencer Shop SID in your area would allow you to use Powered by Dealers and the ease of an electronic fingerprinting machine. Just enter your zip code in their dealer locater for the SID machine. Once your in the system your good to go.

Perrys in Wendell or Clayton Guns in Clayton both have the Silencer Shop kiosks.

Order cards from the ATF for no cost (including no shipping fee). Buy a Sirchie ink pad. Roll your own at your convenience.

Download PassportBooth app and print 6 photos for the cost of one 4x6.

You could file a couple dozen forms that way for <$20 total.

For anybody that wants forms, here you go:

1. Click here: https://www.atf.gov/distribution-center-order-form
2. Fill out Name, E-Mail, Phone Number and Mailing Address
3. Check box for Fingerprint Cards
4. Enter quantity (go ahead and get a couple dozen)
5. Choose "FBI FD-258LE - NFA, Imports ORI WVATF0800" from the dropdown
6. Click Preview ("Add an item" adds another row to your order)
7. Click Submit

Most orders show up in a week or two.

Rolling your own is the easiest. I believe if the SSID kiosk is used they charge $25 or something like that for prints but not really sure.

Anyone know the actual cost for prints and photos from an SSID and do you get them instantly?

Dealer can charge up to $40 but it's up to them. Prints are stored with ss but I believe ss is going to offer them as mail order at some point.

JoCo sheriffs office took about 10 min .

I ordered the cards from the ATF on Saturday and they came in yesterday. I was expecting a couple of weeks, so I put off the fingerprint pad. That has been rectified now.

Make sure you enter Social Sec# on cards otherwise they will call you for it or send photo copy of card back for you to write it in.

Definitely. When I did the first ones at CCBI, I figured I would add the SSN just in case, figured it couldn't hurt for ID purposes, but was glad I did when it needed to be added!

Anything that can help expedite without them calling and holding up progress is a good thing.

SSNs aren’t required for regular FFL forms. Can they require it for NFA transfers? I only give out my SSN for loans and credit cards (and my employer 30 years ago).

Send one in without it and if they cannot look up your SS in their system, it will be back for correction.
I'm stubborn even if it slows it down. Can they require it legally? I think the Feds in particular have a specific statutory set of reasons they are allowed to request SSN.

Who knows if they can require it legally but you can argue with them on the phone if you want like I did the first time we got one
back for correction. Basically was told that they need it for the FBI check and if they did not get it then application would be disapproved.

I think the fingerprinting is foolish, anybody can get a set of prints from somebody who is not in the system.
FBI has my prints since 1980 when I worked as a bank teller in NY.

The FBI have had mine since I had a DOD Secret/CNWDI when I worked at the Air Force Weapons Laboratory.
