I recently bought a new (to me) home that was built in 1947.
The basement has a concrete floor with paint that is chipped and peeling...
I’d like to refinish the basement floor.
Maybe with that garage floor sealant where you sprinkle the flakes on it.

the problem is, I looked into it, and it looks like a loan in the butt.
So, does anyone 1.) Know how, as in has previous experience, and 2.) want to make some coin for doing this for me?

Yep. The people that do floor epoxy for a living clean the heck out of it and then grind off the top couple of mm. Then the epoxy coating has no contaminants underneath and the surface is easy for the epoxy to soak into and bond with. Those last very well and look new for a long time.

You'll have to scarify or shotblast the concrete for proper epoxy adhesion... It's very expensive.

Why not float vinyl plank over it? Waterproof, easily installed with minimal tools/skills, no underlayment necessary (although I recommend 6mil plastic), durable, and you can get it from $1.50sqft at HD/Lowe's...

In my basement, the concrete was in good shape, but... we wanted it to be immune to water damage. So, we installed pressure treated 2x4s face down as sleepers, fastened to the concrete, and put the subfloor on top of them. Then we installed the wood floor.

Reactions: Me.
i imagine the moisture coming up through the old floor may be a problem with the epoxy , i say vapor barrier and vinyl planks for the win.
