Got my first Turkey ever this morning! I’ve tried a couple times in the last with no luck, and this morning a buddy of mine who’s been Turkey hunting since the 70’s invited me out. It was pretty awesome listening to him talking to the birds on calls that he makes himself. Brought this fella in from a long way off. About 45 minutes to an hour in 28deg weather and at least 300 yards from where he first called back to where i shot him. 3.5” federal #6 in an old mossberg 835!

21lbs, 10.5” beard, 1 1/4” Spurs

Congrays on your first bird.
Theres just enough time left to clean it, smoke it, and serve it for easter 😁

Congrats! Just an observation but did you ever notice southern boys are the only hunters that wear bluejeans in below freezing weather.

Nice bird. I'll be trying to get one myself next Saturday.

I used to hunt Turkeys on little used land inside Walt Disney property down there in Florida when I used to work there. On these roads with no one on them early in the morning there would be flocks of Turkeys on the beautifully manicured grass areas along side the road. Being me having no shame, I would regularly swerve off the road in my old Chev pickup truck and figured that if I hit one? It was road kill and free for the taking. Never did get one, used to hunt ducks with my boat on the St Johns river the same way. Its not a real effective way of hunting but that never stopped me from trying.
