First longer range rifle suggestions ** Bought the Tikka**

Wait till you start looking at mid to high end glass. That'll be 2-3x the cost of the rifle.
I started at mid-end glass because I knew I'd just be tossing cash in the fire if I tried to be frugal. The trick for me was to buy "last year's" model when it was being closed out to make room for the new hotness for this year. I don't care one lick about having the older reticle.

Sign up for EuroOptic's email and they will also let you know when items go on sale. They also will negotiate a little on pricing. I routinely get about 10% off items from them if it's not already market down.

I had to unsubscribe from those. EuroOptic and PSA could spend a paycheck faster than my wife, and that's saying something.

I feel like I've got pretty nice glass on it already with the Vortex Viper PST Gen 1 6-24x50. Got it for $499 from EuroOptic. I know its not the new hotness but I feel like it will serve me well!

I already reload for hunting rounds in my 25/06 308 and others. Got a rock chucker press. All I would need is dies and components. Lol.

You are well on your way! How do you like the 25-06?

Anyone used the MDT vertical adjustable grip ? I like how you can adjust it forward and back.

This is what I have on my precision rifle with a grip.

The adjustable base plate helps me ensure I get a consistent grip each time to help align my fingers.

@NKD I got the MDT grip in today and love it. It makes my trigger finger placement much more consistent. I did have to buy an M6-1.00x40 screw since the one that came with it wouldn’t fit the metric hole and threads.

great thread, starting to look for a first long range shooter as well and when I did a search for Bergara in this forum not a single one showed up in the classifieds.

So the wife and JR wanted to go out. Went to a buddy's farm and sighted in other rifle then stretched the Tikka to 300 yds. Head shots were easy peasy with a pretty stiff wind. I was even able to keep it on target while JR was leaning against my hip. He wanted to lay down on my "blanket" with me which means he needs a nap lol

Went and did some shooting today to check some reloads for a ladder test. Shot this five round group at 200 with a pretty eradic wind. ETA I shot this with factory hornady 140gr match ELD-M ammo not my reloads. They were for a ladder test I did.

That's awesome, and one reason why I'm buying a 6.5CM. They are very forgiving for wind.

Shot some reloads today at 200 yds. This was 41.5 gr of H4350 with a federal match lrp in hornady brass twice fired loaded to 2.820. I called the flyer as soon as the rifle recoiled. Going to load 20 or so more at this and give them a try.

Shot today out to 910. She was dead on as long as i did my part. 7 of 10 RDS impacted. First shots were at 600 this morning and I went 9 for 10 on it with the only one I missed with was bad use I thought I needed to drop one tenth of a mil I put it back where I was making good hits and it rang the steel perfect. Tomorrow we’re going to work back out to 1200 and hopefully the mile. I’ll take some pics tomorrow.

Went back for day 2 at BangSteel today. We shot out to 1200 in a driving rain and wind storm. Was fun and the rifle did well! First target of the day was at 720 and I got a first round hit! Rained so hard and long had to break the rifle down and blow it out with a air hose then re oil everything. Was a chore lol

Changed over to cci br4 primers today and shot this group at .52 moa at 200 with 140 gr eldm over 41.5 of H4350 and hornady brass. I annealed some brass tonight so I’ll load some Friday to try and tighten them up a bit more. Still want to find some reloader 17 to try.

Took it to PHA this morning for a quick break in and a rough sight in. First pic below is the first 5 round group at 100 yds. Shot with magpul bipod and a small rear squeeze bag. Second pic is about 10 minutes later and it’s the next 5 round group. I moved the scope so that’s why group moved. I’m still learning this MRAD thing. @BowWow

Just curious. What was the break in procedure?

I shot 1 rd then ran a dry patch through it. Shot 3 then another dry patch and repeated the 3 and dry patch one more time. Now I’m just running a brush through it every 100 RDS followed by dry patches I’ll clean it good with hoppes #9 when I hit 500 RDS. There’s so many different views on barrel break in out there I just went in the middle kinda. I honestly don’t know if it makes a difference.

I was about to ask if it really does anything? Sounds like snake oil

I didn’t touch my barrel until about 600 rounds. Not even a bore snake, dry patch...Groups started to open up about then.

Shot this group with some reloads today. Really like this rifle and load. I got an avg velocity of 2711 an sd of 9 and a ES of 17 with 41.5 gr H4350 federal match primers and hornady brass and 140 gr eldm.

Watched a video last night on setting up fl sizing die for precision and decided to give it a try. Here’s the video

So I sized up 20 like that and used my same load up. Went to the range today and shot a .36 MOA group. So yeah I’ll be doing it like this from now on. I guess the couple hundred I’ve got loaded will be practice ammo lol.
