Hi, I was naughty and accidentally found a scar 20(308). Anyone have strong opinions on them? Id like to be able to stretch it out to around 800ish yards. I have done very little research on scar 20s thus far and plan to do some digging here soon but was wondering if anyone has some starter tips worth sharing.

I read 308 scars like to deliver quite the beating on certain optics, what do you recommend? Is there anything I should be afraid of breaking on the gun? Any preferred ammo I should try? Do they shoot tighter groups suppressed?

Any advice or personal experiences are greatly appreciated. Thanks for reading

OP: They will eventually get around to more advise once the money jokes have subsided. SCARs fall into that category of guns that are just stupid expensive and hence get riled a lot. Don't take that the wrong way.

If it can kill a VCOG I'm not sure what it wouldn't destroy. Maybe an ACOG which has fewer moving parts?

After having previously owned one for several years first thing I'd recommend is ditching that muzzle brake if it's the same as the older ones.
I think that was the source of the reported scope issues. Kinda gave it that reverse recoil like a spring action pellet rifle and was hella obnoxiously loud ta shoot even with ears on. Or mebbe those guys were broke after the purchase and hadta put cheap glass on it. 🤪
Outside of that it was a wonderful semi 308.. Very accurate with my reloads. I ran a Leupold VX-R 1.25-4x Hog scope in a LeRue QD
and a REAP-IR w/D-loc. Never had any scope issues, rail was spec and held up great to many, many swaps.
The Geissele trigger helped but I dunno if I'd do it again were I "revisiting" that rig.
The pointy stock was not good for bag work so I replaced it with the one that had a flat on it for load development.
I disremember which brand it was but it ended up staying on it. YMMV. Enjoy your new toy! 🤠

Trusted my life to one. Elcan 6x is the issued scope. My carry ammo was M118LR, with one mag of M993 AP. Mag Pouches are High Speed Gear Tacos that can also except 30 rd M16, 30rd AK, 30rd VZ58 and SCAR Mk17 without adjustment.

Your team room needed a better couch.

Neither of those are the original brake for the commercial offerings.
This is the one that causes the issues IMO.
I took it off so fast I don't have much in the way of pics that includes it.

Issues? What issues? You mean optics breaking? I would think a break that diminishes recoil would help that.

This is just the opinion of this old man and it's worth at least what it cost you.

There's "diminishes recoil" and there's "creates reverse recoil" where the firearm actually jerks forward.. Like with the spring action pellet rifles.
IIRC, and it's been a while, the "overly efficient" brake on the original commercial SCARs may have been the cause of the issues with some optics.
That's why there are dedicated pellet rifle scopes. "Normal" optics are not designed for "reverse recoil" and some will get jacked up over it.

If it were me, I'd buy a scope for it from one of the companies that just replace stuff under warranty for life.

Well. I had two and sold two. They both were topped with Trijicon Acogs. They punish optics from all accounts, but the Trijicon folks swore that the Acogs would be just fine. I agree. I sold the rifles and kept the scopes.
