Good afternoon everyone. I have started fishing a little bit again as time permits. I have been fishing reservoirs and streams where the water has been mostly clear. I have always fished lakes or reservoirs, never really fished in a major/muddy river before. I read a few articles about lures that rattle and are flashy, most articles discuss that actually.

My question is: how would you set up a line for more bobber type fishing in a muddy, moving river like the Yadkin? Do you put on multiple leaders? Stinky bait? My ideal target species would be Catfish and Bass. I am open to any suggestions as 90% of my experience comes from lakes where almost none of them were muddy and its kind of a whole new arena to me.

In my limited experience with extremely muddy waters. For catfish you want to focus on scent baits. For bass, focus more on a bait that puts off more vibrations and sounds.

Assuming bank fishing with a float.

Catfish stinky
Bass live and moving
right not possibly crappie on minnows as well.

But fishing from a static position catfish might be your best bet. Catfish might move farther for scent than bass will for baitfish. Bass tend to ambush their prey not seek it out swimming around.

That makes sense. Well, it looks like I will get some old chicken/meats outside and 'brewing' then. Thanks for the advice, its a whole new world to me so I am sure it will be fun

I’m not a bobber fisherman but my experience with muddy water is …

Cold muddy is tough, bait just about needs to be dropped on their head.

Warmer muddy is better.
Baits that are light colored, think white, seem to work. Big cranks and thumper spinnerbaits.

Fish the thick stuff and make multiple cast to the same good looking spot.

Slow down. Sometimes way down.

😉

I'm not sure about the Yadkin, but I fish the PeeDee and Waccamaw, not really "muddy", but Brown water.
Bobber fishing for Bass? Live Shiners
Channel Cats? Chicken livers/hearts/gizzards, cut bait, stink baits
Big Cats? Live bait

It has been a weird few weeks. We are in May but it hasn't really 'warmed up' and I haven't seen a lot of warmer weather movement. I will look up a place near me that has some shiners, thank you everyone for the suggestions!

Also, I won't be investing in a lot of expensive lures if I need to find cover to fish around... I am not the world's most precise caster so getting near all those logs/trees and weeds will probably cost me some gear.
