Fishing Pics ... post your most recent.

30-40’ on a 8.5’ rod. I think I usually fish with too long of a leader and sometimes I’m unsure if I’ve got my line/leader/rod balanced out optimally.

Make sure you wait on the rod to load on the back cast. Most distance issues are timing issues. Starting the front cast before the rod loads is a big one.

On the leader, taper is most important. If you are running a long leader of one line size that is not helping. A tapered leader helps transition the energy out to the fly. Fly size vs line and leader size can be an issue too.

I can’t do it anymore but at one point I could cast an entire fly line with an 8’, 4 piece, 4 wt Orvis Tight loop.

I was helping a guy once and the first time we met up I saw his problem. He had taken one of the barbed inserts (no knot leader inserts) and shoved it into the end of his fly line and then tied a level leader to that. Basically created a hinge and didn't stand a chance of making any kind of a cast. Once we got his equipment right the rest was easy....

I'd need to physically see and hold your equipment before I could say anything about it. Something to bear in mind is just because a rod is marked for 6 line doesn't make it so, that's why I'd need to see it and hold it...

Decided to go up near the gorge and fish some wild streams...broke my rod on the laurels on the hike in. Dont think I'll revisit that section of mountain anytime soon, since I covered about 2.5 miles in 5 hours.

4 pc rod, in a case, in my pack. I've fished some of that nastiest streams you can think of. Fly fished over 25 years. I have yet to break a rod on a trout stream. Mainly because I case it when I'm hiking or out and if I have to do any serious bush whacking.

I've only broken one fly rod ever. Last month I broke one fishing out of my kayak and still have no idea what weakened the rod to break like it did.

Yeah, I'm a lowly spinner fisherman and didnt have a telescoping rod. Thought the 2 pc rod was tucked into my pack enough, but slid down an incline and it caught and snapped.

6wt or 4wt?

4WT. My next purchase was going to be a 3WT anyways. Folks reviewing the rods stated in effect that the rods were preforming like a rod of heavier weight (ie the 6WT felt like an 8WT when casting). To me the 4WT made more sense.

Yeah, hard to get a good spin rod that packs down. My 6' 2wt small stream rod is even a 4 piece.

Because it has no eyes and the line has to flex the entire length of the rod. When you build a fly rod you space the eyes as part of getting the rod to flex correctly. No way to do that with that rod. Cool idea though. It's a tenkara rod with a reel.

Well we’re gonna find out if it’s a good idea or not.

Keeping my fingers crossed and hoping for a winner.

If it does feel heavy and over weighted you might have to over line it one weight. It should make the rod feel softer. I can about guarantee it will work. How it feels is the question.

I would imagine they have it optimized as it comes prespooled and ready to use. It shipped today and claims 2 day shipping. I should be able to give some kind of review in the next few days I hope.

No , seriously, I'm living vicariously here. :(

The white bass are schooled up pretty heavy below the dam at high rock. Took a friend and his young son out this afternoon with some ultralight setups. Caught a ton on rooster tails and some topwater. Had a little mishap getting back to the boat ramp.. OOPS!

Forgot to post a few of mine. Slot 20" Red on a popping cork with a gulp shrimp under it. Good eating! Caught him on Father's Day near the Hampstead ramp where we put in.

A few days later, caught a shark on live mullet off a point in Wilmington on the ICW. Fished for about 3 hours and only caught this and about an 8" Croaker!

So I’ve found myself very impressed with the construction of the rod. You very much get what you pay for with this one. It came dressed and ready to go.

As @chiefjason recommended in a previous post the 4wt rod did come preloaded with a one weight increase to the line to compensate for the stiffer action of the rod. To be honest this rod is slightly slower in the action than my 6wt rod even though it’s rated as a 4wt.

The reel is very nice and has an infinitely adjustable drag that is quiet but still gives satisfying audible drag clicks. It seems you could very well replace the reel with one of your own if so desired but I don’t see a need to at this point.

The rod while a bit more difficult to use than my dedicated rods is absolutely superior in its mobility in the woods. I timed myself and it takes right at 45 seconds to go from buttoned up to ready to fish and just a little faster getting it buttoned back up and ready to go. As of right now this is my one rod go to for these small streams and rivers.

ADMIRE MORE OF LOW WATERS FINEST!

Next time your on the river let me know. I’ll link up with you. My place is only like 15 minutes away.
10-4. I worked 6a-10p yesterday so I cut out early today and decided to fish since everyone was at home and there was no way I was gonna be able to sleep. We might try to go this weekend and let the kids swim while I fish.
