Fishing Pics ... post your most recent.

Just got a few whiting in the surf over Thanksgiving. We just arrived back at the beach, so we’ll see what this weekend has in store.

We went fishing in a lake (we call it a huge pond) on base in Kansas. My son caught 4 trout and the 3 year old grandson reeled in his first fish. I didn’t get to fish as the second twin was running everywhere with me chasing. Much bigger trout than in NC but its all stocked and most people throw them back in. I’ll have him send a picture. Pictures I took were on Snapchat.

MR-17 and 18s and the larger 27s I've heard have been doing good in the surf casting for trout. It seems chartreuse has to be in the color scheme. Cut spot heads have worked for larger drum back in mid Nov when my brother went up to Portsmouth.

Went to the break yesterday in hopes of some wahoo and sailfish but the troll bite was extremely slow. We saved the day switching to bottom fishing/jigging. Tuned out to be a great day with hardly no tide out there which makes bottom fishing and jigging much easier. You can see the pic of the bottom machine our drift was .5mph and thats about as high as we saw all day. Mostly .2-.4 mph.

Me with a nice gag I pulled out of the rocks

owner of the boat with new bottom fishing set up. Reel was locked down at 30 lb of drag. If you never experienced that much drag it’s worth the cost of admission to feel like you’re being pulled in the ocean with the fish. I recently got over Covid and I’m weak right now but I had to have someone back the drag down a couple times when it was locked at 30 lb.

Some of the best marks we’ve seen in a while in the deep bottom fishing

Son #2 was home for the holidays, fishing everyday, catching nothing till this pissed off cat bit hard one minute before he packed up to head home an hour ago. Caught in a neighborhood park near a friend’s house in The Containment Area, of all places.

Since it was sunny and almost 50 degrees, walked down to the pond and got some sun and exercise. And a few of these.

Using the Mitchell 308 and Garcia rod I bought in 1972. The 308 needed a cleaning and a tuneup. I bought some bail springs and got it working like new again.

The bream and bass seem to like these tiny lures. I caught an 10+ pound bass on one of these. Using ultralight rod and 2 pound line makes for an interesting time.

Took a party king mackerel fishing today. Bite was slow but we got a few forgot to get pictures because they were in a rush to get back to Charlotte.

I've got a 308 about 5 years older than yours. It's on a very light rod and a blue gill is a lot of fun ( but you already know that ).

Also have the big brother to the 308, my dad's Mitchell 300.

I already had two 300s andctwo 308s but have been buying 300, 308 and 408 off ebay for the past few months. Just buying the made in France ones. Have been fix-er-uppers but been getting parts to repair. Well made and easy ro work on.

You know was they say.... It's just a fish-tale unless there is pictures
This is true. It really wasn’t even a picture worthy trip. Everyone was beat up from the long, rough, cold ride in

The wind won’t quit blowing long enough to do any fishing. This is about the longest I’ve been without going offshore in about 5 years. Last trip was Jan 10th and that was king a king mackerel trip. Here’s some older pics to bump the thread up.

Ocracoke two years ago. Was bounded and determined to get my dad a wahoo and it cost me an extra $100 but he got one

I reeled that one in 72.5 lbs

Same fish as above with a 64 lb kicker. We won a little money off those two fish.

Hogfish. Best eating fish in the ocean hands down and very rare to catch on hook and line. Commercial guys free dive and spear them

White marlin my dad caught in Cabo San Lucas me and him went for a week and fished 5 days a couple years ago FC566407-E667-4B35-A604-1995B6CE191C.jpeg

Just as a note, holding a bass as in the pic (that you plan to release) is most likely a death sentence. Lots of new tagging studies are bringing forth data that is changing the way we think about C&R.

OP: If that was a cull fish or was eaten, no sweat. I just wanted to mention it in case it helps someone.
That method basically breaks the jaw of the bass, who then doesn't eat, gets weak and succumbs to parasites or disease.
The best way is to support the body weight while using the bottom jaw hold.
A 5 lb bass is typically 6-7 years old. Growing big bass is a slow process.

Never thought about it like that. I’ll keep that in mind. Thank you!

Gonna hafta learn how to fish, as I've only pond fished with bobbers for cats & bream & ran bank lines for cats a couple summers.

Our new place has 3 boat launches within 7 miles for awesome river & lake access. We're buying a boat & the area has great bass, crappie, walleye, perch & cat fishing, but I dunno WTH I'm doing. They even have a spoonbill season.

Don't care nothing about sport/trophy fishing, I'm all about eating them, as is the fam & I'm looking forward to having a few beers on the river, while I grocery shop. Just gotta figger out how to get those yummy mofos outta the water & into my frying pan.

In Fisherman magazine used to produce books and videos that were species specific.

That's a big payday right there.
The news story I caught a glimpse of said it took over 2.5 hours to process the fish. I did learn a cool tuna fact this past week watching a tv show. A tuna can actually work so hard fighting the fisherman it can “cook” itself through body temp. That’s why getting the fish in the boat ASAP is crucial.

Nothing on my current phone.

But the last time I went fishing with my daughters, I caught a turtle. It was the only thing I had caught, while my girls were hauling in fish.

The girls, of course, were gleeful at my not catching anything.

"I caught a turtle, doesn't that count?"

"If were were turtling it would, Daddy. But we were fishing, so 'no'."
