Late 80s Toyota 4x4 goodness - any experiences with the 62 series Land Cruiser?

I never had a 62, but I've had a couple of 40 series and an iron pig 55. They were all beasts. They all tended to have problems with body rot. I always wanted a 62, but never pulled that trigger.

Kind of a bucket list 4X4 for me. I ended up going grand Wagoneer crazy instead when got into 4 wheeling. Like all stock rigs they need some serious upgrades (at least lockers, lift and winch) to do tougher trails. Never owned one myself though just drooled and seen them in the trails

They will hold or increase in value!

Too much $$$ for me to truly enjoy šŸ˜‚ so no real world experience yet.

This would be sub 10k. Running. Clean title. Good example. BUT a LITTLE rust in one rear arch. 157k miles.

Sounds like it would be worth looking into further.
Rust would be a big item to look for, body and frame.

For the money youā€™d be foolish not to get it. Unless itā€™s a complete basket case, they sell for way more than that. Iā€™d be hard pressed not to shine it up and flip it for a quick 20k profit though.

Edit: but yeah, the rustā€¦..take your time and really look at everything beneath it. If itā€™s rotted out that would be a hard pass.

Whatā€™s your goals? Since you were talking about a 4 runner and now moved to this.

I just want a vehicle that I can tow with. I have to find it appealing, I have to think it's cool.
I like the 3rd gen 4R, they look great! But I just thought more and more about it and maybe I DO want 4WD just in case.
I just need something bigger than my DD for trips to home depot etc. My little car does a lot that I need, but I find myself needing a bit more room more and more for things - getting mulch, lumber etc. As were about to do more to the house, it'd be good to just have something.

Just Thursday I had to borrow my dads SUV to go get a small trailer. He's cool, but I'd rather not have to bother him if I need to move some stuff.

As for this - it's not in bad shape at all. Actually a friend almost bought it a month ago, I found that out yesterday when I was asking him questions about it, "Oh that's xxxxx's car, I almost bought that, nice guy"
He's very meticulous, if he's considering a purchase then I do believe it to be a good truck/vehicle.

Yeah, market is good for them right now. That's what he said too, "Get it drive it, make a few bucks if you dont like it - you'll never be upside down (financially) in it"

Iā€™ve owned 7 or 8 of them over the last 20 or so years. Iā€™d be interested if you decide to pass. If you get it, Iā€™d also be around to help with any questions. I sold my last one 7 or 8 years ago. Rust can be a real issue so you need to thoroughly inspect it. I still have a low mile transmission and a nice set of front seats out of an 88 along with a ton of spare parts.

After today. You have no idea how much more. šŸ¤£šŸ˜
Brother thanks for the laugh and I hope youre doing well.

So Im going tomorrow at 4pm to look at it.
When we left the venue on Sunday morning I told her to follow me to look at it in person - she was all about me getting it.
We looked at it again...this time I actually walked around the whole thing. Rougher than I expected.
I say that, the rust on rear arch is there, I knew that. But just some small things...and then, PAINT. The body aint bad, but the whole thing will need to be sanded down and resprayed. Both bumpers have damage, but minimal.
Driver's seat is ripped pretty good, if I get it then maybe @Carolinatlc will give me a good deal lol

Speaker grills for the front doors are both missing. Saw a dash trim piece is cracked. And the glove box doesnt latch closed as it is.
And it needs rear tires. They arent slick, but they'll need to be replaced SOON.

All that said - I'll go tomorrow to look at it, drive it, talk to the owner.
It might not be what I was 100% wanting, but I think I do want it. I think it'd be cool to get and if I want to move it later then maybe I could sell it off for break-even pricing.

Saturday morning (if not sooner) I'll update with a yes or no on the buy. If Im a no then I'll let yall know, starting with my boy @Cowboy as he mentioned it first.

I appreciate but until November I'm out all those games.

Sounds like a great price to me. LCs are hot right now. IH8mud is a great forum to check out.
Unless the frame is rotted out all the body rust can be fixed. The seats are super easy to repair like less than 6-800 for new skins installed most of the time.
