Flor De America Cigars in Statesville

Yes they suck.

My $6 stick I got there wasn't worth much more than a yard-gar for $2.50. It's on the level of Flor de Oliva, which is Oliva's budget brand.

Locally, J.R's in Mooresville or Burners in Huntersville are the only thing worth a damn. Down at South Park you got The Tinder Box.

Other than that, CigarMonster/Famous Smoke, Cigar.com or Cigarplace.biz - CigarsInternational.com is okay too. - Every day CigarMonster.com runs all of their daily deals from 12p-1p and 12a-1a...Best place to score 5pks. Free shipping on entire order. Plus, you can add stuff from Famous before checkout.

I'm sure there are other great places in the state, but I've never been.

I'm glad to see there are plenty Brothers of the Leaf here!

I don't go up to Statesville anymore. No reason too since JR moved and went upscale. I stopped in the new place one day and had a less than satisfactory experience.

I miss that cheesy place! Some cool goofy stuff. GooGoo Clusters, silly signage, serious Duster coats for $99, etc.
Something for Mrs. to do and I got to hang out in the cigar shop and buy a nice selection of decent stogies!

I live near Burners, nice place, nice people. That's where I go if I want "upscale".

I don't go out much to cigar stores. I still have sticks from the first "Smokin In The Carolinas" event in Burlington.

I mail order when I need to stock my everyday, go to cigars and Mrs. keeps me well stocked on the latest and greatest as gifts from the Tinder Box in Charlotte.
One of her coworkers knows my tastes and lets her know what to ask for.

.

May I ask what happened? Always good to me in there, except the chick at the bar is a little odd and the younger-ish girl that works the humi called me "hun" and "sweety" all the time which annoys the piss outta me.

I like the new JR place much better than the older one. I hated walking through perfume and junk to get to the humi. It should have had its own entrance. Only thing I don't like about the new one is the price, but price has been up across the board the last couple years compared to when I smoked several years ago.

This was after they first opened. There was a guy and a girl working. I went and stood at the counter after looking for a specific cigar. He eventually took a moment from impressing her with his vast knowledge of vaping to ask what I needed. I asked just in case I missed them and he appeared to consider it for about a nanosecond gave a curt "nope" and returned to educating the pretty young girl. I'm a sales guy, so I am not generally difficult with sales people, even if they're clueless. But what this guy did was just not a good customer service example. He made no attempt at engaging me and telling me about something similar I might like to try, etc. In a place like that I expect and actually want that. I've run across some cigars that I loved because of a tobacconists suggestion.

I'm probably a bit biased to about not being excited to go back too. I go by there a lot since I shoot at PBR, but I really liked the old place and all of it's glorious unpretentious cheesiness, and I have Burners near me. I'm not saying I would never set foot in there again or anything like that, it's just not a destination for me.

I hear you on the overly familiar thing some service workers do. Very irritating.

If you're in Gardner probably no need to drive all the way to Statesville.

Just saying.
Garner is much closer to Selma, but I have been known to travel to share a few smokes with folks from the cigar forum I frequent. I would be no less motivated to do so for some of the fine forum members here. All about the friendships for me.

Understood. Used to do the same frequently.

Thinking more along the lines of something more local though. Lost touch with the local "cigar" scene a few years ago outside of my backyard.
