Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis (R) has proposed restoring a World War II-era force to protect his own state, the Western Journal reported Sunday.
DeSantis called for bringing back the Florida State Guard, a civilian volunteer force whose role will be to assist the National Guard.
Apparently FL is vying for the "Don't Mess With Me/Texas" title. The logo is a big gator and Let Us Alone.

Go get um

It could be good with a conservative governor but it could be just as bad with a liberal governor when one sneaks in … gotta look at it beyond Desantis’s term.

I belonged to the California State Defence force 2003 to 2013. The CAARNG couldn't have deployed to Iraq without our support. I got activated 2x for state fire duty. We did logistics, security, commo, public affairs, medical, admin. Many of the TAG staff at CA are SDF.
NC used to have a SDF but it was stood down a while ago.

Florida is hanging by a gnat’s ass hair in terms of falling to the liberals. I like DeSantis but I probably wouldn’t like his successor. You gotta be willing to have it both ways.

CA, NY, OR and several other (commonly referred to as Lefty) states already have it in place.

Kinda funny that there were posts on social media decrying DeSantis move as "fascist" are likely from residents of states with it in place.

I read an article about it either yesterday or today. I wanna say it was 22 states that already had this in place?

Not trying to hijack the post but why did the NC state guard get indefinitely suspended? I read somthing about workers comp claims but never found anything beyond that, I would like to see them brought back.

i'd work in the armory for access to the giggle switches

Did they have access to them? I read somewhere that some state guards did not offer firearms training or issue them, I have no clue if NC was that way or not.
The CA state guard has a marksmanship detachment that trains Guard members. My unit had armed security force platoons to man the entrance gates at state military facilities. In 2007 I was sent to Camp Roberts as part of a team to inspect and classify weapons returned from Iraq. So in the CA version up to 2013 some state Guard were involved with weapons.

You found the reason. Workmans Comp was the issue. A person was injured during a Hurricane activation and the state would not pay his medical bills. So the state got sued.

That's a real shame. CA treated us as state employees from the time we entered the front gate until drill ended for WC purposes.

Ah I gotcha so instead of paying for his bills they just disbanded the state guard, that's a very f'ed up way to treat them. I saw there is a civilan volunteer group calling themselves the NC state guard trying to bring them back might be worth supporting.

I hope if the NC state guard is ever brought back they will have rifle training.

EDIT: Here is the link to the civilan NCSDF website https://nc.sdfunited.org/
