FN 502 Tactical

I held out as long as I could. Made a call to Prices Creek again… so they put my name on it and I stopped by later this afternoon.

Looks like I’m going to be sending mine in for service soon. Starting to have a lot of issues and may as well get the safety recall fixed while they’re at it.

Now I shoot the absolute HELL out of this gun and 99.9% of the time with a can on it so it’s absolutely filthy so a good cleaning would prob solve my cycling issues im sure but there’s some of the other things I have going on with it now:

1. Mag release sticks and rarely works. I have to manually strip out the mag each time.

2. Front sight is completely loose in the dove tail and I can slide it back and forth by hand.

3. The little plate underneath the optic plate had a piece of it break off.

4. Had an optic screw break off and needs to be removed somehow. (That’s prob not the guns fault, but May as well see if they’ll get it out for me while working on it)

About how many rounds through it so far? The mag release could be a filthy gun issue too couldn't it?
Stuff breaking off on it though, that doesn't instill a lot of confidence for long term use.

Sounds like you ought to just upgrade to that Taurus TX22 Competition! :p

Could be, I’m going to give it a cleaning this weekend to see if it fixes the mag release issue. I’m probably about 10K rounds through the gun now.

The TX22 is nice, but I like the 502 since it is a good trainer for my 509.

At 10k I’d think a good cleaning would be in order.

This might have pushed the 15-22 pistol out as my sons favorite thing to shoot.

Today I kept loading mags for him. He’d run it to empty, strip the mag and swap, rack the slide with the rmr and go back to ringing steel.

Over 300 rounds like this with one pause to run the 15-22 a bit. Not bad for a kid who will be 9 in January!

I’ve been looking at these hard. Picked up a g44 and shot it a bit but really like the idea of a rds on a 22 not to mention the threaded barrel.

I’ve priced these between $512-535 new otd locally, I usually try to buy use though. Is the low $500 range a decent price or can the 502 be found a bit cheaper elsewhere?

I bought new for about 475 out the door

Having the can, rmr and a hammer is really stinking enjoyable on a 22.

My only complaint is the cheap as crap front plastic sight. Rendered pointless with the rmr, but it still bothers me.

Shot mine @100 rounds yesterday with like 8 different kinds of ammo. Not a single malfunction. That hammer is cool. Does anyone else think it's "louder" than other 22 pistols? I hadn't really noticed it until I shot a 22 seel match and several folks mentioned how loud it was. Now I notice every time I shoot it. My only real gripe is the sights. If I keep it, I need to slap some finger nail polish on them or replace them. Can't wait to try the new FN 545(?). If I like the 45 or 10mm. I may just keep the 502....

So many guns. So little money. LOL.

What is everyone's consensus on the 502's trigger?
Having admittedly watched too many review videos, it was noted that the 502's reset was fairly long, especially compared to the tx22, another option I've been considering. I imagine that may be the only advantage the tx22 holds and the 502 is probably superior in almost every other way.
Also, how's the accuracy been on the 502?

I haven't really noticed the volume, tho I do shoot mine suppressed quite a bit. I run the Q erector with 5 baffles, it's really nice. I run a Vortex Venom on mine, so I don't use the iron sights much.

The reset is a tad long, but I don't think it's bad, I can still get good splits with the 502. It's a better trigger than the mushy trigger in the 509T. The trigger in the 502 has never bothered me.

Finally got a black 502T yesterday, so I haven't had a chance to try it out. The trigger does seem a bit mushy and has a longer reset. Neither of which seems to be horrible though.

The odd thing I noticed was how easy it was to put the magazine in slightly off alignment and get it stuck. Maybe it has to do with the shape of the mag and mag well, but I don't think I have ever don that on any other pistol.
Also, and not saying the gun is cheaply made, but it definitely has that almost Kel-Tec feel to it.

Despite those little nitpicking points, based on the feedback here, I am still excited to test this thing out. Still waiting on my DA Mask to get in, so in the mean time I will try it out with my old Spectre 22.

Go run a couple hundred rounds through it and I think you'll be stoked. I love mine. It seems that whenever I bring it out we run 300+ rounds through it, everybody wants "1 more mag" when they shoot it. I do need to clean it as it's probably been 2000-3000 rounds since I it's last bath... all of those rounds are suppressed. I am really impressed with this pistol. FYI, I am noticing that the mag release is dirty and getting kinda funky, so I'm assuming a cleaning will do wonders.
