For my back home peeps

Yeah, been to both those turds! I was at Bragg when Hay St was raunchy! They’ve cleaned it up and built new buildings. I was at Sill in 83.

I got to Sill in '89 as a 19 y/o PFC. Made some memories on Ft Sill Blvd... Got sent to Bragg in '95 after almost 5 years straight in Germany & spent the rest of my career there, minus a 3-yr J-staff tour at SOCEUR & various sojourns to exotic locales.

Missed out on the Hay Street days, but still managed to find plenty of ways to raise hell & get up to no good. Lol! I did NOT want to come to Bragg, but NC just grew on me. Met some good people here & knew after my first winter here that I was never moving back home to KS.

Ricks Lounge ! Had my pic taken there with Victoria Paris in the late 80's.Good times.Don't remember the drive home that night. Not sure how I made it.

Went to get my buddies boat out, the roads been flooded thanks to all the damn rain... didnt make it till yesterday.

Here's the first attempt last Sunday, had about 2 more miles to go like this:

If you check out this barn you can see how high the water was before we attempted this trip:

At least you're on the water, which will help mitigate it a bit. As a kid, 'normal' was 105F+ for weeks straight, come late July/early August. Summer always felt stickier to me back home. Maybe it was just the extra heat? It might have '4 seasons', but every one of 'em is turned up to 11.

Honestly though, if we were to ever pack up & leave NC (not gonna happen), southern MO is one of the very few places I'd consider.
I remember several years of my youth spent in Bloomington-Normal IL & then Lincoln NE, getting sweaty with all those midwestern corn fed girls made the heat barely noticeable.

Why you think I married a gal from IL? We actually met at Ft. Sam Houston, while I was a 21 y/o E4 reclassing out of the Infantry & she a bright eyed & bushy tailed, 18 y/o "E I owe you one" Combat Medic student. Didn't marry her till 15 years later, but that's a story for another time.

I tried to win that Drury farm giveaway (60 acres) so bad last spring, I think I entered with 50 different email addresses. It was up on the Iowa line thought, far away from the Lou. But I'm a deer hunter, and I knew that couldn't be the primary residence.
But everything I have seen from the southeast corner to the Ozarks have convinced me that Mizzou is an awesome state. How hot did it get in August of last year @BurnedOutGeek ?
