Former Granville Sheriff back in court

It's kinda scary for me because I happen to live in that county. Makes me wonder just how much bad stuff was going on in that department?

It happens from time to time everywhere. Went thru the same crap down in Brunwick Co some years ago. Sheriff Hewitt eventually went to jail and died there. Same crap in Davidson Co with their "Walking Tall" wannabe sheriff. These guys are all dicks with ears that somehow think they are the law and above the law and will never get caught and if caught will never go to court and if convicted will never go to jail. Justice prevails in most of these cases because the courts realize they need to be made examples of.

I work for a company who will fire everybody in a location and pay good money to bring in fill-in workers from other locations the next day
I'm the compliance manager. I like to point out to staff that the only way to not get fired in a situation like that is to not break rules, and report coworkers who are breaking rules. I got bills to pay, and I'm not getting fired to protect any of them.

I don't know ALL the particulars, but I did know Brin personally and his family. All I will say is don't believe everything you read or hear on the news -there's often more to the story.

I'd be curious. I can see how things like training records are somewhat on the edge. But supposedly there were also confiscated vehicles found on his farm, how does that happen? Where they moved there for storage?

Falsified training records...what else was falsified? No wiggle room. LEO's must be held to a higher standard but with current position vacancy rates at local law enforcement agencies, I shudder to think what type of person is being hired to just fill a position with a warm body.

The article points to the problem with sheriffs in general. They are not answerable to anyone other than the voters, and it is easy to hide things from voters. Especially if you have most of the department in agreement that "doing _______ is OK". That's too much power vs. the checks and balances in place.

Fire Chiefs in North Carolina have been fired and arrested/put in jail for falsifying training records. I don’t see how it would be any different for the cops if they lie about records.

What gets me is that is an average citizen gets caught lying to FBI, ATF, cops, congress, etc we can go down hard. However, it’s an everyday work requirement for the above agencies

Read this as:
If I can get fired for X, then anyone in .gov can be. No exceptions, no excuses.
