Totally a kids shooter video game and something I wouldn’t normally play.

But my son and my nephew play. They’ll talk on FaceTime while they play together as a team.

A couple weeks ago my son asked me if I would play with him. So we set up a split screen and played.

It’s been fun. We’ve actually won a few times. We almost always make it to the top 10. Of course I’ve been teaching the boy tactics as we play which usually works out.

Anybody else play with their kids?

Yep. Play a few nights a week usually with the wife, daughter, and our online gamer friends. It can be frustrating with some of the cheaters, but still enjoy it most nights. My daughter is great at it, the wife and I not so much. We use a Discord channel to communicate in lieu of the in-game chat.

We just played 3 games tonight.

The first game my controller freaked out and I could only move forward and back. Couldn’t shoot or do anything.

So he played the whole game by himself and came in second.

We won the next two games.

I play, my son got me started about 5 years ago. Now I play by myself sometimes now but still with him too. Strategy will win you games, I win lots of games when im outskilled. I win a good bit of solo but when I play with my son and his girlfriend we win alot.

I played a little by myself after we first started just so I could learn how to play better. Finally won a few and now I just play with him.

We almost always drop into Lonely Labs. Good spot to pick up weapons and ammo right away.

Sometimes we’re the only ones there. Sometimes we have to pop a few idiots.

Once we have a decent armory we try to stay out of the way and pick up ammo, upgrade weapons as others kill each other off.

My son is the opposite, land in a busy place and get after it. We often win with around 20 kills between the squad.

I play solo more like yall, land in a more quiet place, get a good load out and try not to get in big fights.

If you’re new, I always recommending dropping “hot” that way you can get a gun quick and start learning gunskill and movement as quick as possible. I’m a hands on learner and learn by doing.

Definitely is a kids game but it can be a ton of fun with the right people. I hate the building that you have to do in like ranked play, but since they introduced buildless that’s all I’ll play!
It must take a kids brain to be able to build in any thing like a reasonable amount of time. I can’t do it.

But I can have my son lay down covering fire on someone’s build while I flank it and pop them short range with a shotgun. Lol. They never see it coming.

I occasionally play Fortnite with mine but we also like to play apex legends or fall guys and occasionally my eldest and I will play DayZ together.

I wasn't sure about playing first person shooter games with a joystick. I played Delta Force back in the days on PC. But last summer I downloaded Fortnite on the Switch because my son told me it was free. Took me a while to get used to the controller and played no build solo most of the time. I usually dropped to the hottest places and went for the action. My best was 17 kills in a game. I don't play much as more because my eyes get tired so easy.

Long time FPS gamer here, but I could never get into Fortnite. MW: Warzone was much more interesting at that time.

If you're looking for additional co-op gaming experiences (and on an XBox) the Halo series of games did an excellent job of split screen gaming. Halo 3 single player was the pinnacle in my opinion with the addition of the Skull modifiers. They even retroactively added co-op to the original Halo when they released the Halo:CE Anniversary.

Same here….that was the days before a headset and you had to type “trash talk” into the chat.

One of my favorite things to do was jump into a Deathmatch, find a good hide and wait…of course, a lot of others did the same. If I didn’t see anyone moving, I’d throw some bait in the chat and type, “Arrrgghh…a fresh soul hath appeared in my crosshairs”. Wouldn’t be but a couple of seconds and folks would jump up, start running around, looking for a new spot to hide. I’d follow them in my scope, wait until they got settled in, then start plugging them.

Geez…that’s been a few days ago. That game came out in what? 97 or 98?

The last shooter I played before Fortnite was Medal of Honor - Allied Assault. Loved that game, played non-stop with my college roommates. Wish there were more games with that level of realism/weaponry, as some of the more modern non-stop comms noise/drone strikes are just too much.

I think this day in age, its much more difficult for the casual player to get involved in FPS's because of the popularity of gaming and streamers as a whole. Fortnite at least does a decent job of scaling your lobby placement based on skill level. Some of these other games you'd better be a borderline pro, or you'll get massacred so quickly that there's zero enjoyment in playing.

Oh good grief, the Fortnite rabbit hole. My kids grandparents gave them a Fortnite edition PlayStation a few years ago for Christmas and that’s where it all started. I went from watching them, trying a few games, playing split screen, getting another PlayStation for a better experience than split screen, to getting a gaming PC for better performance still.

There was a time we would all play trios together but my daughter doesn’t play at all anymore and my son rarely plays. I play more than I should, but it’s quite crazy the number of adults that play this game. I’m in a few Fbook groups for adults, one of the biggest is for adults over 40. I’m pretty decent at the game, only play builds, and am trying to hit 100 crowns this season. At about 56 for now.

Some of the skins are hilarious too. Nothing like being in a running gun battle against a human sized banana.

My daughter regularly plays as something that looks like Chewbacca mated with a hamster, and another one that looks like a human hamburger became homeless. I'm usually either a Japanese robot girl or a small statured guy wearing all black, because I'd swear the "hit boxes" are smaller on those characters.

We like to snoop and ambush so I always play a dark character. Right now it’s a dark Chewbacca.

I can’t tell you how many times I’ve hid in a corner and had someone run right past me or even towards me and I just light them up. Lol.

I remember when they had to tone down some of the female characters’ boobs because the jiggling animations caused some people to complain it was sexist.

My daughter and the one online friend are always pushing. I like to lurk with a blue redeye or better and make people made from a distance.

I finally paid to get the Chewbacca skin. I was playing with what the game comes with.

But it randomly made my character a girl with a hella tomb raider butt and it kept distracting me.

Nothing better than a red eye or a sniper and hiding in a bush smoking people.

My daughter is decent with the sniper, I'm terrible with it. I can compensate for lead and drop much better in real life than I can that stupid game. For some reason, I excelled with the infantry rifle from the end of last season, though. I can do some pretty good damage with the explosive redeye and the medium ammo mag augment, though!

There’s a spot not far from brutal bastion. Kind of a stone henge looking place in the middle of a frozen lake.

There’s an NPC that is randomly there who sells mythic weapons for $50 each.

She’s only there about 1 game in 5 but we try to swing buy there every game.

You can start off with 3 really powerful guns if she’s there.

And the red light saber comes in pretty handy with some of its skills.

Yep, the "Monolith".

I hate the addition of the blaster and the light sabers. They're too overpowered. We had to lose at least 4 rounds the other night because someone just leveled the entire building we were in with it. It's basically an even worse/more lopsided version of the "Deku smash" from the previous season. The floating island needs to go, too. Seems like we play so many games where the island ends up "in the circle", and a team just camps up there the entire time annihilating people with a gold sniper and plasma rifle.

Got the boy a ps5 since he made straight A’s 2 years in a row. That and the prices have dropped in half of where they were a year ago.

He’s been out of town so he doesn’t know yet. I set it up today and played a couple games of Fortnite to see how much clearer it was and if the reaction times were as fast as advertised.

Holy smokes. Played 4 games. Won 3 of them.

And the new weapon selections are pretty awesome. The drum shotgun is awesome. Especially the mythic one from loot island.

Jesus. The 5 is so much better than the 4.

The boy was really excited about getting it. We just sat down and played 3 games before bed. Won all 3 easily.

The difference in graphics and lag time is astonishing.

We were winning 1 game in 10 before. Now I’ll be surprised if we lose 1 game in 10.

This…this kills me….

I play with my kiddo when he’s here….and I crack up everytime some weird avatar pops up and tries to kill me….

Downloaded fortnite on the Xbox for grandkids. Never played it; first person shooters tend to give me vertigo. Sometimes just watching son play smite can do me in.

This is hooked to a smaller TV so maybe that will help...
