Like the title says, I found some Hornady 6.5 CM brass that had been converted to something larger. It’s not .308; the neck diameter looks to be .30 cal but the case itself is different than a .308. Anyone ID this?

.270?????

But why would anyone take more valuable, less abundant brass and convert it to a more common caliber???

That's right we are talking reloaders here...

...because you can, or more likely, one of your friends said you couldn't/

I think it’s 7mm-08. I found about 5-6 of them, so it wasn’t an accidental thing; they had been loaded and fired.

6.5 is shorter. Run it thru a .308 die you get a short necked .308, as long as you're not seating way out there with a short bullet it's perfectly usable. 7mm-08 would be the same scenario, but it looks .30cal.

Why? Range brass and no 6.5 in the house.
