It was beating at 0900 and it’s frying at noon! How’s that for fresh! Love seared deer heart!

Never tried it.

I was taught not to eat the organs of game animals because of parasites and having seen them when gutting deer in SC (liver flukes and heart worms etc) I guess I’ve just been turned off to the idea of it.

I have had beef heart and actually had dog heart and horse heart overseas. Both were good.
 
I’ve eaten plenty of deer hearts with no ill effects yet. I guess to each their own.

IMO it's the second best part of the deer, right behind the inner loins. The taste and texture is really similar.

I’ll have to give it a try. I wasn’t knocking it and have had heart, like I said I was just taught not to eat it at an early age and that’s hard to break mentally.

I take mine and cut the valves off the top and the out of the inside leaving it sort of hollow. I cut it into strips. Put fresh black pepper garlic powder and seasoning salt on it. Heat up a cast iron skillet with olive oil and butter. Then sear it on both sides. When it comes out a light shake of seasoning salt and it’s ready to eat.

Guy at work told me his daddy made him take a bite out of the heart of the first deer he killed as they field dressed it. Was he pulling my leg or is that some kind of hunter's blood rite?

I’ve seen it in certain clubs but it’s not one that I would join. It can make someone sick. Same with making them drink the blood.

It’s an extreme version of blooding where the take the blood of your first kill and pour it over your head.
 
Yeah…….noooooooo.

If i'm down to guts….its time to kill another. :) That goes for chicken gizzards/hearts/livers/feets/etc too. ew.

Agreed...........Very unwise practice no matter what the intended meaning is.
