I'm in the market for an adjustable front rest. I'm looking for something better than a Caldwell without spending $600 on a Sinclair.

Something like this Bald Eagle brand:

Suggestions?

Requirements:
Free recoil, not a "lead sled" style
Accommodates bolt guns and MSRs w/reduced capacity mags (20 rd PMag for example)
Elevation and Windage adjustable

Gotta be a fancy clamping one like that?

Not necessarily clamping, but I'd like to adjust elevation/windage without having to come off the rifle.

I have one of the Bald Eagle rests and they are quite nice. I have the slingshot model, but if you get the cast iron model, I don't think stability will be an issue no matter if you go with the slingshot or tripod style. I believe the front bags are an odd size, so not any model will fit if you don't like the Bald Eagle models. I seem to recall reading that Protektor bags might fit though.

One complaint that I do have about the unit is the windage control cable. Adjustments aren't very smooth and the cable tends to flop around when making adjustments. There's a mod available where the cable can be removed and replaced with a carb stud bolt (5/16" x 3 inches). One end is 18tpi and threads into the adjustment knob. The other end is 24tpi and threads into the carriage. The adjustment knob now sticks off the side of the rest, but adjustments are much better.

Overall, a good rest for the money.
