Funny who you meet

I have a picture with Kevin Costner. It wasn’t a chance meeting. I was at the 2002 Olympics and he was on the Today’s Show as a guest. Once it was over I was able to sneak in a picture

I used to see Doc and Merle Watson on a weekly basis at the soda fountain on King St in Boone when I was in college.
You my friend just won !!! Not only were you in Boone but you ran into two of the greatest singers
I've ever heard.

Oh yeah, had a talk with Dick Vitale in the Marriott Marquis in Manhattan one night. Ehhh. Had to wash my hands after that one. He's a bit phoney. And my buddy in the accounting dept there confirmed his douche-baggery.

I can't stand Vitale his voice drives me crazy. Rather listen to Rap music then him.

I also have run into several "stars" in Aspen. Elton John, Oprah, Jeremy Pivens, John Oates, and Lance Armstrong.

My uncle did plumbing at about 90% of the high rises in Charlotte back in the day. They were building a luxury building and a tenant wanted a 10ft claw tub that was going to cost 20k to order. My uncle wouldn't order it until he was given a down payment from the individual. About twenty minutes later Alonzo Morning walked in the room. He said that was the largest man he had ever seen.

In the early '80's, I worked down the way from Chisholm's restaurant and ate lunch there every day. Ran into a fare number of characters attending various events or programs at Duke. Waylon Jennings bought my lunch one day. I had a Martini with Buddy Hackett, sneeking away from Rice diet program. Had a brief conversation with Wayne Rogers.

Well if we are going low rent athlete's from Georgetown I was introduced to Sleepy Floyd once. I told him I couldn't shake his hand because I am a Syracuse fan. He laughed his ass off.

I met John Madden in a coffee shop in Rock Springs, Wyoming around 1980. He was passing thru on I-80 going somewhere in his custom bus.

I spoke with Cale Yarboro for a half hour before I even knew it was him... many moons ago

I met Tom Baker at a signing thing once when I was 8 or 9. He was a bit hammered and made a lewd suggestion to my mother.

Oh and I was forced to meet Paul Darrow and the guy who played Blake because a friend had to work and wanted autographs.

Met Tom Knapp in Argentina. Didn't get a chance to shoot with him or watch him shoot. He was shooting at a different location each day with his peeps.

Are these British people?

Tom Baker was the best Dr Who, before it got all hip and trendy.

Paul Darrow and the other guy we're actors on a cult sci-fi show called Blake's 7. It was made on the classic BBC 70's shoestring budget but was by and large rather good.

Madden was/is pretty cool. I used to live in the same town as him in CA. We used to run into him and his wife at the frozen yogurt place pretty often. I left him alone, but always wanted to tell him he should cut back on the yogurt. Supposedly he had a big garage type structure for having guests over to watch games that was basically a private sports bar. Needless to say I wasn't on the list.

Agreed, Tom Baker was the best.

Loved the Brit sci-fi of the late 60's and the 70's. We watched here a series or so in arrears on PBS.

Of all the ones I remember, I'd suggest Blake's Seven and Sapphire and Steel.

I worked the chutes at the PBR in WS every year I worked there. so you were down there where the action happened. We had to be there hours before the actual event since there were alot of bulls being moved, and a lot of dangerous stuff prior to the show. One year, there were this pack of about 5 hotties meandering around in short dresses, and walking up to the VIP platform. After awhile, the pack walked out the aisle we were standing in and stopped beside us. So I got my polite flirt on. The lead hottie talked to me about 10 minutes, and eventually, they had to go up to the platform. I noticed another one of the EMS girls working the event pointing at me to her partner and shaking her head. I was like…Why you bothering me when Im working the magic…? She said you dont know who that was…..do you? The hot blonde? well, no.

Well, who knew? She said…."You are something else." Least I swing for the fences. And she had just broken up with Ty Murray. I didnt know they were a thing either. Cuz i have the dumb.

Saw Zach Galifianakis at the Wilkesboro Wal-Mart. Didn't approach because I don't care.

My wife worked at Merlefest when she was in college.
Apparently Allison Krause is a diva.
Dolly Parton, on the other hand, is still as down to earth as they come.

Since we're doing "once I saw" too...
I sat across the small breakfast room at a hotel in the Poconos from none other than Alice Cooper.
The guy working with me asked if I was going to ask for an autograph, told him nope, the guy probably just wants to eat his breakfast in peace.
Didn't deter my coworker.

On another job in Vegas, I flew my wife out for a few days. Marie Osmond was on the plane with her and talked with everyone who approached her. Mrs spoke with her too and said she seemed very down to earth.

Isn’t it funny who you run into. .
Back in the early 90’s, I spent the evening having dinner and listening to football stories from Bill Dooley and Jerry Clower. They were really funny (played at Mississippi State together).

Nope. Is he over 7’ tall? When I shook Eric’s hand I thought he was going to tickle my elbow. I don’t have to look up to many people.

Montrose's daughter played v-ball in the same club as my kids, but she is older. I have seen him at some tourney's and events. Never spoken to him. In Richmond one year we were walking off the elevator with my little one. Who I think was 9 years old and about 4' tall when Montrose looks down and says hey Sophia, and put his hand down for a low five. I soon found out that being the smallest and youngest player ever at the club has made my little one a minor celbrity in the local v-ball world. Drives her big sister crazy.

Funny point about Montrose that makes me like him even though we've never spoken. He wrote an srticle in Bassmasters magazine years ago about doing fishing tournaments when his NBA career was over. He made the comment that he found hours of standing and fishing with pretty much no breaks for 3 days way tougher on his body than NBA games. My back can attest to that one.
